The Times Union morning newspaper of Albany, Albany Co., NY includes an occasional obituary from Columbia Co.  Beginning May 1, 2004, I took note of the ones listed from that county and copied them from the Times Union website.  The newspaper does not claim a copyright on the obituaries.  From some older newspapers, I was able to locate 6 obituaries back to January 7, 2004.  It should be noted that the obituaries are mainly for people whose residences were in the northern half of Columbia Co. and as far south as the city of Hudson (with one or two exceptions).  This is probably true because that is the portion of the county which is closest to Albany Co.

The obituaries below are arranged alphabetically by surname, and an index to them is provided next.  The online obituaries had no paragraphs, so I created them. 

Some of the obituaries have a thumbnail photo of the person (included here).  An image of a flag or a flying dove may also be part of the obituary.  A flag represents military service.  A Dove can mean peace, or if it is flying, it can mean resurrection.  It has other meanings as well.

Ackley, John B.   --  11/30/2004 
  COPAKE  --  John Benedict Ackley of Empire Road, Copake, N.Y., died at Kimball Farms Nursing Care Center in Lenox, Mass. on Saturday, November 27, 2004. Born on September 16, 1916 in Copake, NY to John D. and Mina Wilkinson Ackley. 

     Ben as he was known to family and friends, was a 1934 graduate of the first graduating class of the former Roeliff Jansen Central School in Hillsdale, N.Y., and a 1938 graduate of Syracuse University. He worked all his life in the telecommunications industry. He was CEO and chairman of the board of Taconic Telephone Corp., Chatham, N.Y. from 1972 when Taconic was formed until 1998 when the company was sold to Fairpoint Communications of Charlotte, N.C. He was president of Copake Telephone Co., a family owned company that was formed in 1908, from 1952 until the merge of Copake and Columbia Rensselaer Telephone Co. in 1972, which became Taconic Telephone Corp. He was also past president and chairman of the Richmond Telephone Co. in Richmond, Mass., a company that he purchased in 1961. Richmond Telephone is the only privately owned independent local telephone company in the state of Massachusetts. He was a past board member of the United States Telephone Assoc., Telephone Assoc. of New England, and was a former president of the New York State Telecommunications Assoc. Ben loved working on a local farm as a child and raising his chickens. After college he became a dairy farmer and owner of Empire Stock Farm, Copake, N.Y., where the first Black and White Show for Eastern New York Holsteins was held. He later sold the Holstein herd and equipment in 1964 and worked full time at the Copake Telephone Co. with his father, John D., who was the founder of the telephone company. He was a member of the Eastern New York Holstein Club and New York State Holstein Assoc. He also loved the harness racing business, as an owner and trainer, racing his horses through out the Northeast, but the Saratoga Raceway was his favorite. He was past president and co-founder of the Empire Driving Club and a member of the United Sates Trotting Assoc. Ben was also an active member in many local town organizations. A member and past chief of the Copake Fire Co., member of the Lions Club, past member of Key Bank Regional Advisory Board, a former Town Councilman, member and communicate of Copake Methodist Church, West Copake Reformed Church and the Copake Grange. Hunting and fishing with lifelong friends in Mt. Washington, Mass. were also some of Ben's favorite activities. 

     His wife, Barbara (Gere) Ackley on July 18, 1998 predeceased him and a sister, Harriet Ackley Peck Strassburger on September 5, 1985. He and Barbara were married on October 19, 1940 in Syracuse, N.Y. They lived in Copake, N.Y. all their lives. Survivors include five daughters, Judith Whitbeck of Bonita Springs, Fla. and Mt. Washington, Mass., Marilyn Herrington of Hillsdale, N.Y., Lorinda Ackley Mazur of Richmond, Mass., Mary Ackley of Copake, N.Y., Elizabeth Nielsen of Valley Falls, N.Y.; sons-in-law, Thomas Mazur of Richmond, Mass. and Gary Nielsen of Valley Falls, N.Y.; 14 grandchildren, Abigail Robey of Saco, Maine, Sarah Philion of Claverack, N.Y., Lorinda Bruise of Gastonia, N.C., Allison Neumann of Hillsdale, N.Y., Heather Canetto of Hillsdale, N.Y., Mary Yancey of Townshend, Vt., Richard Herrington of Hillsdale, N.Y., Catherine Starks of East Greenbush, N.Y., John Dullaghan of Gt. Barrington, Mass., Marilyn Alamillo of Albany, N.Y., Amy McDonald of Franklin, N.Y., Jessica Nielsen of Yonkers, N.Y. and Lindsay and Andrea Nielsen of Valley Falls, N.Y.; 11 great-grandchildren; sister, Carolyn Ackley Schreck of Chatham, Mass. and Vero Beach, Fla.; several nieces and nephews. 

     Calling hours will be from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., Tuesday, November 30 from the Peck & Peck Funeral Home, Rte. 22, Copake, NY 12516. Memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, December 1 at the West Copake Reformed Church. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. Akin, Irving A.   --  12/15/2004
  STUYVESANT FALLS  --  Irving A. Akin of Stuyvesant Falls, died on Tuesday, December 7, 2004 at Columbia Memorial Hospital, following a long illness. 

     Born on January 18, 1923, he was a graduate of Chatham High School, class of 1941. 

     He was proud to serve his country during World War II as a member of the 306th Airborne Squadron. He served in the Pacific Theatre, where he was stationed in the Philippine Islands, New Guinea and Japan. Upon his discharge from the service, he was employed as a printer by the Universal Match Corporation in Hudson until his retirement in 1985. He was a member of the Stuyvesant Falls V.F.W. Post 9593. He enjoyed golfing and cheering on his favorite New York teams: the Mets, Jets and Nets. 

     He is survived by his devoted wife of 62 years, Frances Harder Akin; a daughter, Pamela Giammattei and her husband Thomas of Valatie; a granddaughter, Amy Giammattei of Rensselaer. 

     Funeral arrangements are with the Raymond E. Bond Funeral Home in Valatie. There will be no calling hours. Burial services will be private and at the convenience of the family following cremation. Altomer, Jean D.   --  7/3/2004
STUYVESANT  --  Jean D. Altomer, 63, of Co. Rt. 21, Stuyvesant, N.Y., died peacefully Friday, July 2, 2004 at her home. 

     Born in Albany, N.Y., April 28, 1941, she was the daughter of the late Howard and Lina (Lockwood) Davis. Jean was a cheerleader for the ICC Riders Basketball Team and graduated from Ichabod Crane in 1959. She was employed by Hudson River Bank and Trust and retired from Albank in Albany where she worked as a loan specialist. She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Stuyvesant and was a Sunday School teacher at Emanuel Lutheran Church in Stuyvesant. She also sang with the Sweet Adelines. 

     She is survived by her husband, Karl G. Altomer; two daughters, Lisa Monthie and husband, Brian, of Niverville, Lori J. Drumm and husband, Jeffrey, of Stuyvesant; one sister, Carol Pinkowski of Chatham, N.Y.; five brothers, Charles Davis and wife, Diane, of Castleton, Ronald Davis and wife, Ginny, of North Chatham, Robert Davis and wife, Marie, of Round Lake, Paul Davis and wife, Shirley, of Chatham and Martin Davis and wife, Mary Ann, of Buffalo; one grandson, Dillon Jeffrey Drumm; and several nieces and nephews. 

     Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. from St. John's Lutheran Church, Route 26A, Stuyvesant with the service conducted by Deacon Robert Fricke and Rev. James Slater. Interment will be in North Chatham Cemetery. Friends may call Tuesday from 9-11 a.m. at the Raymond E. Bond Funeral Home, Rt. 9, Valatie, N.Y. Baker, Leonard P.   --  6/16/2004 - 6/17/2004
  CANAAN, N.Y.  --  Leonard P. Baker, 60, died on Monday, June 14, 2004 at his daughter's residence in Canaan surrounded by his loving family. 

     Born in Albany, he was the son of Ivan Baker of Nassau and the late Florence Mildred Rendo Baker. Leonard lived most of his life in the Castleton, N.Y. area before moving to St. Augustine, Fla. in 1991. In his early years, he was a driver for Staats Express and Red Star Express. Later he owned and operated the 9 & 20 Gulf Service Station. He also worked as a cook at various restaurants prior to moving to Fla. In Fla., he worked at Lyons Machine Shop as a machine operator. He was an active member at Grace Bible Chapel where he was appreciated for his positive attitude as well as his keen and quick wit. His faith was expressed through serving the homeless and being a mentor in the local AA program. 

     He was father of Renee Fuhlbrigge of Canaan, N.Y., Leonard Baker of Castleton, N.Y., Willard Baker of Salem, N.Y., Shane Baker of Schuylerville, N.Y., Nikka Baker of Argyle, N.Y. and Melissa Baker of Hudson Falls, N.Y.; brother of Larry Baker of Atlanta, Ga., Nadine Tanner of Defreestville, N.Y., Diane Rieck of Nassau, N.Y., Ellen Honsinger of Castleton, N.Y., David Baker of Amsterdam, N.Y., Gary Baker of Ghent, N.Y. and the late Mark Baker; also survived by seven grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Leonard was the longtime companion of Kay Meahen of St. Augustine, Fla. 

     A funeral service will be held Friday, June 18, 2004 at 11:00 a.m. at the Ray Funeral Home, 59 Seaman Ave., Castleton, N.Y. Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the funeral home Thursday 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. Interment, Knox Cemetery, Knox, N.Y. Banker, Margaret M.   --  6/4/2004
NEW LEBANON Margaret M. Scheidt Banker, 80, of Route 22, died on Wednesday, June 2, 2004 at Hillcrest Commons in Pittsfield. 

     Born in Rochester, N.Y. on October 13, 1923, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Hildegarde Ueblacher Scheidt and the step-daughter of the late Margaret Tirpaek Scheidt. She was the loving wife of Charles W. Banker who died on August 26, 1990. They were married in Sioux Falls, S.D. on December 8, 1944. Mrs. Banker graduated from Nazareth Academy in Rochester and worked at various offices as a secretary/stenographer. She met her husband while he was in the service. Upon their return to Rochester, she worked with their radio repair business as a bookkeeper. In 1953, they moved to Phoenix, N.Y. and, in 1967, relocated to Lebanon Springs from Syracuse. Mrs. Banker worked as a part-time clerk in the Lebanon Springs Post Office before becoming postmaster. She retired in 1988. Mrs. Banker was a communicant of the Church of the Immaculate Conception in New Lebanon where she worked at Bingo and was one of the church's first readers. She was also a tireless volunteer of the New Lebanon Library. In her spare time, Mrs. Banker loved reading, jigsaw and crossword puzzles, knitting and her favorite activity, socializing. She was on the board of directors of the Cemetery of the Evergreens.

     Survivors include her children, Charles D. Doug (Ah-Nee, Cindy), David A. (Luz), William A. (Deborah) and Sherman R. (Deborah) Banker, Sr., all of New Lebanon, Kathryn M. (Jim) Hunter of Syracuse; siblings, Gerard Scheidt and Ann Therese Raetz, both of Rochester; 16 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and a great-great grandson. She was predeceased by a son, Frank G. Banker, and a brother, Francis Scheidt. 

     A Liturgy of Christian Death and Burial will be con-celebrated on Monday morning at 11 o'clock in the Church of the Immaculate Conception, Route 20, New Lebanon by Rev. John Close and Rev. Lee Smith. Cremation will follow in the Gardner Earl Crematorium in Troy. Inurnment at the convenience of the family will be in the Cemetery of the Evergreens in New Lebanon. Barksdale, Laura J.   --  11/17/2004
HUDSON  --  Laura J. Barksdale, 66, of Union Street, Hudson, died Sunday, November 14, 2004 at Columbia Memorial Hospital. 

    Born August 11, 1938 in Hudson, she was the daughter of the late Leroy and Ella (Edmunds) Barksdale. 

    She was a psychotherapist for 35 years in the geriatric unit at the Capital District Psychiatric Center and also worked on assignment from C.D.P.C. to the Columbia County Mental Health Department. Ms. Barksdale was a member of the Shiloh Baptist Church in Hudson, a member of the Woman's Progressive Club at Shiloh Baptist and a member of the Allen Echos Church Choir. She was a graduate of Hudson High School and SUNY Albany. Ms. Barksdale was a lifelong area resident. 

    Surviving are two sons, Robert E. Barksdale of Greenport and Anthony L. Gooding of Utica; four grandsons, Rashad Barksdale, Talib Barksdale, Zayre Barksdale and Jordan Bain, all of Hudson; a sister, Sheila Ramsey of Hudson; a brother, James Edmunds of Albany; two god-sisters, Dorothy Williams Boice of Albany and Debra Cunningham of Hudson; a host of nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her god-sister, Donna Franklin. 

    Calling hours will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday at Shiloh Baptist Church, 14 Warren St., Hudson. Services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday at the church. Interment will be in Cedar Park Cemetery in Hudson. Arrangements are with the Bates & Anderson-Redmond & Keeler Funeral Home, 110 Green Street, Hudson.

Berntson, Marion E.   --  7/7/2004
  NIVERVILLE  --  Marion E. Berntson, 73, of Knollwood Drive, Niverville, N.Y. died Monday, July 5, 2004 at Barnwell Health Facilities in Valatie after a five-year battle with ovarian cancer. 

     Born in Schenectady, N.Y., January 24, 1931, she was the daughter of the late G. Al and Marion (Green) Finke. She was a supervisory park ranger for the National Park Service at Lindenwald for 16 years, retiring in 2000, and a summer resident of Diamond Point on Lake George for over 50 years. Marion was a docents of the Columbia County Historical Society and a member of Friends of Lindenwald, the Kinderhook Garden Club, queen mother of the Local Red Hat Society, Caring Together, an ovarian cancer support group, the Scandinavian Forum, a longtime curator of the DAR museum in Hudson, the Ghent Playhouse and St. Luke's Lutheran Church. 

     She is survived by her husband, Dana Berntson; two sons, Rex M. Berntsson and his wife, Mary Kay Millier, of Dryden, N.Y. and Neal R. Berntson of Albany, N.Y.; one daughter, Karla B. Dulic and her husband, Charles, of East Lansing, Mich.; a brother, G. Albert Finke and his wife, Norma, of Niskayuna, N.Y.; three grandchildren, Laura, Melissa and Kevin Dulic; and a sister-in-law, Marcia Anderson of Rockport, Maine. 

     A memorial service will be held Saturday at 11:00 a.m. from St. Luke's Lutheran Church, Route 9, Valatie with the service conducted by Rev. James Slater. Friends may call Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Raymond E. Bond Funeral Home, Rt. 9, Valatie, N.Y. PHILMONT  --  Winifred S. Berlt, 102, died Friday, June 18, 2004 at Pine Haven Home, Philmont, N.Y. 

     She was born October 21, 1901. She was predeceased by her husband, Charles S. Berlt. 

     Calling hours will be Sunday 2-4 and 7-9. Funeral service Monday 10 a.m. at St. Luke's Church, Chatham.

HUDSON  --  Marie A. Boyer, 82, died Wednesday, April 28, 2004 at Columbia Memorial Hospital, Hudson, N.Y. 

     She was born in Albany, the daughter of the late Marc and Regina Venne Boyer. Marie had resided in Albany most of her life. She was employed at the New York State Department of Education, Albany for 26 years, retiring in 1985. Marie was also a communicant of St. Patrick's Church, Albany. 

     She is survived by two nephews, Marc Boyer of Menands and Michael Boyer of Burlington, Vt.; a sister-in-law, Gloria Boyer. 

     A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday, May 5, 2004, 10 a.m. at St. Patrick's Church, 279 Central Avenue, Albany. There will be no calling hours. Interment will be in St. Agnes Cemetery, Menands.

VALATIE  --  Elizabeth F. Casey, 90, a resident of Barnwell Health Facilities, Valatie, died Thursday, July 22, 2004 at Columbia Memorial Hospital in Hudson. 

     Born in Huntington, Long Island, June 10, 1914, she was the daughter of the late Andrew and Ellen (Dunne) Finnegan. Mrs. Casey was a retired writer and co-owner of Finnegan's Tap Room in Huntington, L.I. After 51 years in Huntington, they moved to Valatie and operated Casey's Inn on Route 9. She graduated from Holy Cross Academy H.S. in Flushing and Fordham University where she earned her B.A. in science. She also attended NYU and Fairfield University. 

     She is survived by two daughters, Maryellen Usis of Albany, N.Y., Patrice (Patsy) Leader of Niverville, N.Y.; two sons, Roger E. Casey Jr. of Auberndale, Fla., John A. Casey of Sarasota, Fla.; six grandchildren, Krista, Jeff, Katie, Becky, Brian and Andrew and three great-grandchildren, Madyson, Analeigh and Joseph. She was predeceased by her husband, Roger E. Casey Sr.; a son, David Casey; and a grandson, Robert M. Usis Jr. 

     Funeral services will be held Monday at 10:00 a.m. from St. Joseph's Center, Valatie, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Interment will be in St. John The Baptist Cemetery. Charon, Lois   --  12/9/2004 - 12/10/2004 
CHATHAM, N.Y.  --  Lois (Palmer) Charron, of Chatham, joined the angels on December 4, 2004 at the age of 77. 

     She was at the Hospice House in Bradenton, Fla. after a long illness. 

     Born Lois Reynolds in Sydney, Maine, she lived the past 30 years in the Albany area. Lois is survived by her Prince Charming, Nelson Charron; her daughters, Leslie (Richard) Polsinello of Troy, Betty (Denny) Hill of Williamson, N.Y., Todd (Keri) Palmer of Tampa, Fla.; and by her stepson, Wally (Joan) Charron of Chatham. Also survived by her grandchildren, Jennifer, Mikel, Kim, Beth, Ricky, Kristen and Shannon, who will miss her very much. Known affectionately as GiGi to her great-grandchildren, Emily, EJ, Caroline, Devon, Delaney, John and Lily. Lois will be remembered for spreading smiley faces wherever she went. Her family and friends will miss this classy lady.

     There will be a service at 11:00 a.m. this Saturday, December 11 at St. James RC Church in Chatham. Colburn, Grace M.   --  1/26/2005 
NIVERVILLE, N.Y.  --  Grace M. Colburn, 76, of Van Buren Ave., Niverville, died Tuesday, January 25, 2005 at Barnwell Health Facilities, Valatie, N.Y. 

     Born in Catskill, N.Y., November 30, 1928, she was the daughter of the late Earl McNary and Dorothy (Wallace) McNary Oliver. 

     Mrs. Colburn was a graduate of Bethlehem High School in Delmar as well as the NYS Institute of Agriculture & Home Economics in Cobleskill and Russell Sage College in Albany. She worked at the Tri-Village Nursery School in Delmar and was a member of the Niverville/Chatham Center United Methodist Church and also sang in their choir. She was a member of the Tri-Village Senior Citizens and the United Methodist Women. 

     She is survived by her husband, Carl S. Colburn; two daughters, Cynthia Thibeault (the late James) of Averill Park, N.Y. and Kelly Covell (Richard) of Grafton, N.Y.; two sons, Jeffrey Colburn (Sharon) of N.H. and Gregory Colburn (April) of Averill Park; 10 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. 

     Funeral services will be held Saturday at 11:00 a.m. from the Raymond E. Bond Funeral Home, Rt. 9, Valatie with the service conducted by Rev. Dr. Robert Pennock. Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Niverville. Calling hours will be Friday from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Crawley, Elizabeth A.   --  8/2/2004
NEW LEBANON  --  Elizabeth A. Troskowski Crawley, 75, of Extension Road died on Saturday at Berkshire Medical Center after being stricken at home. 

     Born in East Chatham on July 6, 1929, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Josephine Troskowski and the loving wife of Francis E. Crawley. Mrs. Crawley was a graduate of East Chatham High School and was of the Roman Catholic faith. In her earlier years, she was a homemaker while raising her family. She was a teacher's aide at the Walter B. Howard Elementary School in New Lebanon for many years retiring in 1993. She love gardening, bird watching, tag sales and shopping with her daughter. 

     Survivors include her husband Frank; her children Daniel A. (Robin) Crawley of East Nassau, Gary E. (Anna) Crawley of Mich., Doreen E. (David) Kilventon of Stephentown, Robert F. Crawley of New Lebanon; her grandchildren Shaun and Adam Crawley, Natalie, Matthew and Leslie Crawley, David Kilventon; a great-grandson Adam Kayden Crawley and her siblings Dorothy Rawson of Richmond, Mass. and Theodore Troskowski of Ausable Forks, N.Y. She was predeceased by a grandson Mark Crawley and siblings Edward and Joseph Troskowski; Helen Krajkowski and Ann Frosty. 

     Funeral services will be on Wednesday at 10:15 in the Hall & Higgins Funeral Home, 457 NY 43, Stephentown and at 11 am in St. Joseph's Church (across from the funeral home) where Rev. John L. Close will celebrate a Liturgy of Christian Death and Burial. Interment will follow in Garfield Cemetery. Cruisce, Barbara J.   --  12/13/2004 
VALATIE  --  Barbara J. Cruisce, 67, of Carolyn Road, died Saturday, December 11, 2004 at St. Peter's Hospital in Albany. 

     She was the daughter of the late Joseph and Dorothy Houser Miaski and the wife of Sebastian Bud Cruisce.

     Mrs. Cruisce lived in Nassau for 30 years, moving to Valatie within the last six months. She was educated in the East Greenbush School district and graduated from Columbia High School. She was a homemaker while her children were growing up and later worked as an accounts payable clerk for Computer Sciences Corp. Mrs. Cruisce treasured her family and her grandchildren. She enjoyed playing Lotto, crocheting and traveling, especially on bus trips. 

     Survivors in addition to her husband include two sons, James Cruisce of Wynantskill and John Cruisce of Valatie; a daughter, Karen May of Duanesburg; five sisters, Vivian Gallagher of East Schodack, Dorothy Van Nederynan of Castleton, Marlene Murphy of Niverville, Janet Statile of Colonie and Patricia Console of East Greenbush. Mrs. Cruisce was grandmother to four wonderful grandchildren. She was the sister of the late Shirley Bonnet.

VALATIE  --  Billie D. Dahlgren, 84, of Barnwell Health Facilities, Valatie, formerly of Schodack Landing, died Sunday, June 6, 2004 at Barnwell. 

     Born in Ellenburg Center N.Y. on April 2, 1920, she was the daughter of the late Milo and Naida (Hobbs) DeLong. Mrs. Dahlgren was a graduate of Albany Business College as well as a farmer and horse trainer for 40 years. She was a member of the New York State Trotters Association. 

     Billie is survived by two nieces, Judy Bury and Karen Leffingwell of Kinderhook; two nephews, Don Dahlgren and Charles Sands; and three cousins, Kay H. Washbourn and Thomas and Robert Hobbs. She was predeceased by her husband, John E. Dahlgren. 

     Funeral services will be held Thursday at 11:00 a.m. from the Raymond E. Bond Funeral Home, Rt. 9, Valatie with a service conducted by Rev. Stark Jones. Interment will be at the convenience of the family. There will be a calling hour on Thursday from 10-11 a.m. at the funeral home. Delp, Margaret D. Rubow   --  3/30/2004
HUDSON, N.Y.  --  Margaret D. Rubow Delp, 80, of Fingar Road, Greenport, died Saturday, March 27, 2004 at Columbia Memorial Hospital in Hudson. 

     Born August 5, 1923 in Urbana, Ill., she was the daughter of the late Fred and Rella (Black) Rubow. She was a graduate of Urbana High School in 1942. Mrs. Delp was a bookkeeper for Nack Bros. Garage for many years and retired in 1975 due to health reasons. She had lived in Hudson since 1945. Mrs. Delp was a member of the Methodist Church in Hudson and sang in the choir, a PTA member and past president at the Stottville Elementary School and a den mother for Cub Scouts. She was a charter member of Dusty Travelers camping and travel club, (NCHA) and was the secretary for many years. 

     Surviving are her husband L. Gordon Delp, whom she married on July 28, 1942; a son and daughter-in-law, Bradford G. and Donna Delp of Catskill; a daughter, Judith M. Delp (Coe) of Hudson; two granddaughters, Wendy Delp Meyers and her husband Jody of Leeds and Michelle Coe Dunham and her husband Larry of North Chatham; a grandson, Roger G. Coe and his wife Angie of Fall River, Mass.; a great-grandson, Aaron G. Dunham; one nephew and many nieces. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by a brother, Lloyd Rubow, and three sisters, Florence Peterson, Pauline Hatter and Frieda Wascher. 

     A calling hour will begin at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Bates & Anderson - Redmond & Keeler Funeral Home, 110 Green St., Hudson. Services will follow at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be in Riverside Cemetery in Coxsackie.  [Published in the Times Union, Albany, NY.]

Demars, Mary C.   --  6/2/2004
CHATHAM  --  Mary C. Demars, 75, of Kinderhook, N.Y., formerly of Chatham, died Monday, May 31, 2004 at Albany Medical Center following a lengthy illness. 

     Mrs. Demars born June 27, 1929 in Kingston, N.Y., the daughter of the late Bernard and Anne (Moore) Chester. She graduated from Chatham High School and attended Marymount College in Tarrytown, N.Y. She worked in the family business, Chester Manufacturing in Chatham for several years. In her younger years, Mary enjoyed playing golf and it was through that she met her husband of 50 years, William F. Demars of Kinderhook at the Wolfert's Roost in Loudonville, N.Y. where Mary and her family were members. In her later years, she became a tennis fan. She and her husband enjoyed trips to Albany and Saratoga to watch tennis matches. She enjoyed going out to lunch with her son, Bill Jr. Mrs. Demars was a communicant of St. James R.C. Church in Chatham. 

     Besides her husband Bill, she is survived by three sons, Pat and his wife Karen of Phoenix, Ariz., Mike and his wife Laurie of Austerlitz, N.Y., Bill Jr. and his wife Sandy of Loudonville, N.Y. Survived by grandchildren, Rachel, Anna and Aaron of Austerlitz, Matt and Miles of Arizona; and by several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sister, Betty Ryan. 

     A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday 10:00 a.m. from the St. James R.C. Church, Chatham with the Reverend Gary Gelfenbien officiating. Interment will be in the St. James Cemetery. VALATIE, N.Y.  --  Constance J. Dempsey, 95, entered into eternal life, Saturday, December 18, 2004. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., daughter of the late Louise Cook and John Wallace. Constance was from 1945-1996, a parishioner of St. Clare's, Colonie, before moving to Valatie. Predeceased by her loving husband, John L. Dempsey, sisters, Louise A. Wallace, Regina Flaherty, Jacqueline Choules and brothers, John and William Wallace. She was the loving mother of Thomas A. Dempsey of Wynantskill, Sister Francine Dempsey, CSJ of Albany, Jack Dempsey of East Berne, Connie and Jack Smith of Valatie and honorary daughter, Sister Kitty Hanley, CSJ. She was special grandmother of Michelle, Francine and Katy Smith and Jack, Brian and Ian Dempsey. Also survived by many wonderful nieces and nephews, and especially the Flaherty family. Throughout her long life family, faith and hospitality were essential to Connie's life. She shared her gracious love with all she met. VALATIE  --  Ann DeStefano, 76, died Wednesday, September 29, 2004 at the Barnwell Nursing Home. 

     Born in Albany, she was the daughter of the late Eugene DeStefano and Elizabeth Hisgen. She was the cousin of John Damian of Florida and Jean Murname of Albany.

DeVane, Robert Ellard   --  1/6/2005 
  CHATHAM, N.Y.  --  Robert DeVane was born in Chatham on October 24, 1924 to Edna and Ellard DeVane and died on January 1, 2005 in Bradenton, Fla. 

     He attended Chatham schools but left in his senior year of high school to join the U.S. Army where he was trained as a medic. Like many World War II soldiers, he was stationed across Europe in places such as England, Ireland, France, Belgium, and Germany. He was honorably discharged and briefly worked for General Electric. In 1947, he re-enlisted in the Army as a medic and was stationed at West Point, N.Y. where he met his wife, Gloria. Bob served in the Korean War and then was stationed in Japan for a time with his family. He returned to the U.S. in 1956 and received an honorable discharge from the Army. He and his family moved to Bradenton Beach, Fla. and he joined the Air Force Reserves. Bob continued in the medical profession, becoming an orthopedic technician, working with an orthopedic surgeon (an Army National Guard general) in Bradenton for many years. Bob retired from the Air Force Reserves after 26 years of service with the title of senior master sergeant, with a total military service time of 38 years. During his lifetime, Bob was very active in local civic organizations, serving as commander of VFW Post 8199 in Bradenton and president of the Annie Silver Community Center in Bradenton Beach. He was a member of the Kirby Stewart American Legion Post 24, as well as a member of the Korean War Veteran's Association and many other organizations. 

     He was predeceased by his wife Gloria and leaves behind daughter, Daphne Smith; son, David DeVane; three grandchildren, Brandon DeVane, Gini Smith and Tami Dittmeier and two great-grandchildren, Katie and Michael Dittmeier of Bradenton Beach; as well as sisters, Doris Witthoft and Marilyn Martin of Chatham; and numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, great-grandnieces and great-grandnephews. Bob was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather and epitomized the ideals of service to country, community and family. He was a friend to all and everyone was his friend. 

     Services will be held at the Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Chatham on Monday, January 10 at 1 p.m. and an interment with full military honors will be held in the Chatham Rural Cemetery following the church service. Donations can be made in Bob's honor to the American Cancer Society. Dorato, James F.   --  1/11/2005 
         VALATIE, N.Y.  --  James F. Dorato, 88, died Sunday, January 9, 2005 at the Albany Memorial Hospital. 

     Born in Albany, he was the son of the late Anthony and Lucy Sabatino Dorato. He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Ann Collamer Dorato, in August of 1994. 

     He retired from M & B Plumbing where he worked for over 15 years. Mr. Dorato was the owner and operator of Dorato's Groceries on Sheridan Ave. from 1949-63. 

     He was the father of James A. Dorato (Mary) of Niverville, Gary J. Dorato of Palm Harbor, Fla. and Victor W. Dorato (Nancy) of Valatie; grandfather of Linda Yasinski, Grace Germond, James A. Dorato Jr., Michele Dorato, Victor Dorato Jr. and Marc Dorato; brother of Ann Rericha of Palm Beach, Fla., Elizabeth Patricca of Albany, Joseph Dorato of Albany and the late Thomas Dorato, Maria Myerson, Regina Senrick and William Dorato; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews also survive. 

     Funeral service Thursday at 8:15 a.m. from the McVeigh Funeral Home, 208 North Allen Street, Albany thence to the Historic Church of St. Mary on Capital Hill at 9:00 a.m. where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. KINDERHOOK, N.Y.  --  June E. Duff, 74, of Kinderhook, passed away Wednesday, September 8, 2004 in the Barnwell Health Facilities, Valatie. 

     Born in Irvington, N.J., she was the daughter of the late Patrick and the late Edith Keating and the wife of Jack Duff. 

     Before her retirement, Mrs. Duff was a transportation supervisor for Ichabod Crane Central School for many years. She also was a co-founder for St. John's Elve's in 1970, a communicant of St. John's Church in Valatie and a New York State Retiree. 

     Besides her husband Jack, she is also survived by two sons, Patrick Duff of N.C. and John Duff of Glens Falls; three grandchildren, Kelly Shea, Scott Richards and Jennifer Duff and two great-grandchildren, A.J. Shea and Billy Shea. She was predeceased by her daughter, Eileen Richards.

     He is survived by one daughter, Cameron Farley of Kinderhook; two brothers, Damian Farley of Natick, Mass. and Joseph Farley of Valatie, N.Y.

VALATIE, N.Y.  --  Clyde F. Flansburg, 90, formerly of Coxsackie, died August 30, 2004 at the Barnwell Health Facility, Valatie, after a short illness. 

     He was born in Medway on January 20, 1914 and was the son of the late Oliver H. and Pearl C. (Friend) Flansburg. 

     Mr. Flansburg was a member of Christ Episcopal Church and past warden of the vestry. Prior to his retirement, he worked at the American Valve Corp. In his youth, he served as purser aboard the Chauncey M. Depew with the Hudson River Dayline. He was predeceased by his wife, Danetta (Lennon) Flansburg. 

     He is survived by a son, Gerald Flansburg and his wife Donna of Kinderhook; a daughter, Joyce Verdaasdonk and her husband the Rev. Henry Verdaasdonk of Coxsackie; six grandchildren, Sherry Rose of Albany, N.Y., Wayne Verdaasdonk of Hampton, Va., Joseph Verdaasdonk of Corfu, N.Y., Karen Ressler of Kinderhook, N.Y., Kathleen Flansburg of Warwick, N.Y., Kevin Flansburg of Boston, Mass.; and six great-grandchildren.

Flood, George H. Sr.   --  2/1/2005 
CHATHAM George Henry Flood, Sr., of Chatham, died on January 29, 2005. A long time resident of Chatham, born in White Plains, N.Y. on September 27, 1909. 

     He moved here with his family to what would be called the Flood Farm, when he was 12. He graduated Chatham High School and later met and married Mary Nancy Face on November 27, 1935, she predeceased him in 1991. He was a quiet fellow that found peace on the farm he enjoyed so much. Aside from his farming, he loved spending time with his family. 

     Surviving are his son, Harry of Farmington, Mo.; his daughter, Christine Coons of Chatham; his brothers, Patrick of Chatham and Donald of Eaglewood, Fla.; seven grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; his niece, Patricia Pilon of New Albany, Ohio; several other nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his two sons, George Henry, Jr. and Donald P. 

     The family will receive friends at the French, Gifford and Preiter Funeral Home, 25 Railroad Avenue, Saturday, February 5, 2005 from noon to 2 p.m. at that time there will be a religious service at the funeral home. Flynn, Jack B.   --  10/15/2004
HUDSON  --  Jack B. Flynn, age 57, died Wednesday, October 13, 2004 in Hudson, N.Y. 

     He was born on January 27, 1947 in New York City to Edward V. Flynn and Mary C. (nee McKenna) Flynn. He was predeceased by his parents and his sisters, Genevieve Clark, Jessie Root, Charlotte Rock and Bernice Pendyke. He is survived by his sisters, Maureen Brown and Catherine Lemoine; his brothers, Michael Rock and James Rock; and also his beloved companion, Mariel Wallin. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. 

     Jack worked for CSX Railroad for over 35 years as a railroad engineer. He was a 1965 graduate of Chatham High School where he played football. He then attended McCook College in McCook, Neb. where he also played football. He was an avid reader and conversationalist. He loved to vacation in Popham Beach, Maine. He will be sorely missed by all of his family and all who came to know him.

VALATIE  --  Evelyn T. Foster, 72, died Thursday, January 13, 2005 at St. Peter's Hospice Inn. 

     Born October 1, 1932 in Brooklyn, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late John and Clara Scott. 

     She was assistant manager of the Trustco Bank Hudson branch before retiring. She will be remembered for her loving kindness and generosity to anyone she met. 

     She was the beloved mother of Kathleen Jonas and her husband Dana, Wade and his wife Maribel of Valatie and Karen Bestvina and her husband George of Gloversville, N.Y.; and cherished grandmother of Michael and Amy Jonas. Evelyn is also survived by her sister, Mary (Charles) Wagner of Davidsonville, Md. and Irene Gerber of Chittenango, N.Y.; many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother, Vincent Scott, her sister, Viola Clay and her children, Kevin and Kristine Foster. 

     Funeral services will be held on Monday at 11 a.m. at the Clearview Christian and Missionary Alliance Church in Castleton with Pastor Nick Becker officiating.   NIVERVILLE  --  On September 14, 2004, the gates of Heaven opened, allowing a new angel to enter, Gregory Scott Foster, 32, of Rose Street, Niverville, N.Y. He left this worldly life on a journey that will take him to be with the Lord. We can honor his memory by being happy and knowing he is resting in peace with no pain or suffering. 

     Born in Albany, N.Y., August 20, 1972, he is the son of Robert D. and Gail (Marohn) Foster. 

     Greg graduated from Ichabod Crane High School in 1991 and attended Columbia-Greene Community College. He was a social member of the Niverville Fire Department and a NASCAR and motorcycle enthusiast. 

     Left in this world to cherish his love and memory, besides his parents, are his wife, Virginia (Cooper) Foster; three stepchildren, Heather Espinoza, Shane and Walter Talarico; two sisters, Lynneanne M. Snay and her husband Randy of Albany, N.Y. and Cynthia K. Burns and her husband Justin of Latham, N.Y.; one brother, Kevin A. Foster of Nassau, N.Y.; a godchild and nephew, Joshua Snay; two nieces, Victoria Snay and Rebecca Foster; three nephews, Cody Foster, Luke and Marc Burns; his canine companions, Smokey and Woody; his feline companions, Sara and Woogie; a special friend, Elizabeth Bassett; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

CHATHAM  --  Isabel K. Robbie French, 91, of Chatham, N.Y., died Friday, July 9, 2004 at her home with her husband of 60 years, Jerome A., and her son, Dr. John R. French, at her side. 

     Born on November 6, 1912 in Brooklyn, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late William D. and Isabella (Wilson) Robertson. Her husband, Jerome A. French, and son, John R. French M.D., a rheumatologist at Columbia Memorial Hospital, survive her. She was predeceased by three brothers, Donald, Gregory and Wallace Robertson. Mrs. French lived in and around the New York City Metropolitan area until 1949 when she moved with her husband to Chatham, building their home on Route 203. 

     She was a Columbia County realtor since 1963 and served for many years as the exclusive local affiliate of Sotherby's International Real Estate. Prior to that, she was secretary to the president of the Hudson Valley Paper Company, Albany; secretary to the president of the national board of the Y.W.C.A.; office manager and administrative assistant to the vice president of the Sperry Gyroscope Company; and office manager and administrative assistant to the late John D. Rockefeller, 3rd in the family offices at Rockefeller Center. In 1999, Mrs. French became affiliated with Schoenfeld, French and Lull Real Estate. Mrs. French was a graduate of the Barnard School for Girls in New York City, Albany Business College and attended New York University School of Commerce. Active in her community, Mrs. French was a founding and life member of the Columbia Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and served as its president in 1956; a member of St. Peter's Presbyterian Church in Spencertown; past president and member of Columbia County Board of Realtors; Women's Club of Chatham; Garden Club of Kinderhook; Women's Guild of the First Reformed Church of Chatham; former vice president of the Women's Republican Club of Columbia County; Women's non-partisan Civic League and served on the executive committee that was instrumental in bringing Nelson Rockefeller to Columbia County for his first political speech before entering the race for governor. She received a letter of commendation from Mrs. Lyndon Johnson for her contributions as chair of the Make America Beautiful Program. Other memberships included the Old Chatham Hunt Club, Charity Chapter #47 Eastern Star, Columbia Golf and Country Club, V.F.W. and American Legion Auxiliary, Senior Citizens of Columbia County and Columbia County Council of the Arts. 

     There will be no calling hours. A church service will be held on Monday, July 12, 2004 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Peter's Presbyterian Church in Spencertown. Interment will be in St. James Cemetery in Ghent. Arrangements are with French, Gifford and Preiter Funeral Home, 25 Railroad Avenue, Chatham, N.Y. VALATIE  --  Katherine A. Gentry, 16, of Grandview Drive, Valatie, passed away suddenly Wednesday, September 15, 2004 at her home. 

     Born in Hudson, September 21, 1987, she was the daughter of Kay L. (Ordway) Gentry of Valatie and the late Thomas John. 

     Katherine was scheduled to graduate from Ichabod Crane High School this year and presently was attending Hudson Valley Community College. She worked part-time for the Kinderhook Animal Hospital, was co-captain of the ICC Girls Field Hockey Team and was a member of the Albany Obedience Club. Her love for animals was evident to everyone and she enjoyed showing and training her dog, Phantom. She loved horseback riding and especially being with her friends, Tanya, Cate and Kristin. 

     Besides her mother Kay, she is survived by one brother, Clint Andrews of Valatie; her stepfather, Fred Andrews of Valatie; paternal grandparents, Elmer and Mary Gentry of Valatie; maternal grandparents, Donald and Carleen Ordway of Grand Rapids, Mich.; aunts and uncles, Vincent and Cynthia Gentry of Niskayuna and Benjamin and Kelly Nitz of Grand Rapids, Mich. She is also survived by three nieces. 

     Funeral services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. in the Raymond E. Bond Funeral Home, Rt. 9, Valatie with Rev. Stephen Allison officiating. CHATHAM CENTER, N.Y.  --  W. Gordon Goold, age 97, of Chatham Center, N.Y., died Sunday, January 23, 2005 at his residence. 

     He as born on April 26, 1907, in Chatham Center to Newton Goold and Florence (nee Beckwith) Goold. He was predeceased by his wife of 72 years, Arlene in 2002. He is survived by his children, Alan, Betsy Palladino, Roger and David; grandfather of 11 and great-grandfather of 14. 

     Mr. Goold was the owner of W. Gordon Goold Inc. Well Contracting in Chatham Center, past president of the Empire State Waterwell Association, a member of the NGWA, director Emeritas of the Columbia County Agricultural Society, member of the Chatham Center/Niverville United Methodist Church, former board member of the Crellin/Morris Foundation, also a former scout master and active in the Fort Orange Council of Boy Scouts of America, charter member of the Tri-Village Fire Company and a past president, a member of the Chatham Hook and Ladder and the Ghent Volunteer Fire Company and a former officer of the Chatham Exchange Club. 

     Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, January 26, 2005 at the French, Gifford and Preiter Funeral Home, 25 Railroad Avenue, Chatham, N.Y. from 2 until 4 p.m. and 7 until 9 p.m. A funeral service will be conducted on Thursday, January 27, 2005 at 11 a.m. at the Chatham Center/Niverville United Methodist Church, in Chatham Center with the Rev. STUYVESANT FALLS Marie A. Hanley, 80, of Stuyvesant Falls, passed away Tuesday, May 4, 2004 in the Albany Memorial Hospital, Albany. 

     Born in New York City on October 7, 1923, she was the daughter of the late Vincent James and the late Ethel (McGurgan) Montana and the wife of Cornelius Buddy Hanley. Before Mrs. Hanley's retirement, she was employed in New York City in the assembly department at Evian Perfume. She was a member of Nativity/St. Mary's Church in Stuyvesant Falls. 

     Besides her husband Buddy, she is survived by five nieces, Patricia Novak of Stuyvesant, Maureen Stettner of Kinderhook, Eileen Guild of Nassau and Jane Sergi and Mary Bridget Lichte, both of Jackson Heights; one nephew, Vincent Gannon of Saratoga Springs; and one cousin and godchild, Arlene Krawczyk. Several great-nieces, great-nephews and a great-great-niece also survive. She was predeceased by two sisters, Eileen Ann Mahady and Ethel Gannon.

Heintz, George Henry   --  8/11/2004
STUYVESANT  --  George Henry Heintz, 74, of Stuyvesant, passed away Monday, August 9, 2004 in St. Peter's Hospital, Albany after a courageous battle with a long illness. 

     Born December 27, 1929 in Stuyvesant Falls, he was the son of the late Henry and the late Elizabeth (Gelhorn) Heintz and the beloved husband of Rose (Gamello) Heintz who were married in 1957. 

     Mr. Heintz served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Along with his wife Rose, he owned and operated the Newton Hook Tavern in Stuyvesant and worked for Greco Construction of Albany. He was a past commander and member of the Stuyvesant Falls VFW #9593, member of the Stuyvesant Fire Company, Glencadia Rod and Gun Club in Stuyvesant Falls and the Emanuel Lutheran Church in Stuyvesant Falls. He was also a social member of the Stuyvesant Falls Fire Company and a past president of the Columbia County Liquor Dealers Association. 

     Besides his loving wife Rose, George is survived by several nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by four brothers, Fred, Walter, Harold and Samuel Heintz; three sisters, Lydia Dusenbury, Pauline Keil and Ruth Heintz.

     Funeral services will be held 9:00 a.m. Thursday in St. Luke's Lutheran Church, Rt. 9, Valatie. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, Stuyvesant Falls. Herr, V. Marie   --  1/23/2005
VALATIE V.  --  Marie (Still) Herr, 87, died on Saturday, January 22, 2005 at the Barnwell Nursing Home in Valatie after a long illness. 

     Marie was born in Knoxville, Tenn., the daughter of the late James M. and Vivian (Staley) Still. She was one of seven children. 

     In May 1943, she graduated from the Knoxville General Hospital School of Nursing as a registered nurse. Marie attended Emory and Henry College and, in 1946, she obtained a B.S. in public health nursing from George Peabody Teachers College in Nashville, Tenn. That same year, she married Aaron Herr and they left for China, where they served as relief workers with the Mennonite Church, running an orphanage. After two years, Marie returned with an infant son. A year later, Aaron returned from China and they settled in Goshen, Ind. 

     There, they raised four children, David (Sharon) of Castleton, N.Y., George Daniel of Anderson, Ind., Susan (Dirk) Herr-Hoyman of Madison, Wis. and Paul (Betsy) of Longmont, Colo. Aaron Herr predeceased her in 1976. She has six grandchildren, Andrew, Steven, Rachel, Adam, Joshua and Aaron. 

     She will always be remembered for her spirit, her energetic concern for others and her way with words. Marie worked as a private duty nurse and as an RN at Fountainview Nursing Home in Goshen. In 1995, she moved to Madison, Wis. and, in 2002, she moved to the Albany, N.Y. area. 

     The family would like to express special thanks to the wonderful, caring staff of Barnwell Nursing Home and the Community Hospice of Columbia/Greene. A funeral service will be held in Goshen at the Goshen College Mennonite Church, of which she was a member. VALATIE  --  Chris Alan Hill, 55, of Park Place, Valatie, died at St. Peter's Hospital Monday morning, January 5, 2004. 

     Chris was born in Nelson, N.Y. He is predeceased by his wife of 30 years, Celeste Hill. Chris worked for the NYS Assembly and OMRDD for 30 years before attending the New England Culinary Inst. where he became a chef and baker. After retiring from the state, he became a baker in Our Daily Bread in Chatham, N.Y. He recently became a snowbird and retired to Florida. 

     He is survived by his parents Franklin and Mildred Hill of Redfield, N.Y.; his brother, Fredrick and Tina Hill of Camden, N.Y., Pam and Tim VanDusen of S.C., Judy and Kieth Tompkins of Redfield. He is also survived by his son, Josh Hill and daughter-in-law, Samantha Hill of Brooklyn, N.Y.; daughters, Cecile Hill of Valatie and Jessica Miller and son-in-law, Jason Miller of Queensbury. He has one grandson, Kyle Miller of Queensbury, N.Y.

HUDSON  --  I. Claire Hilligas, 80, of Dutch Village in Claverack, formerly of Green Acres, died Thursday, September 16, 2004 at Columbia Memorial Hospital. Born July 24, 1924 in Rensselaer, she was the daughter of the late Austin and Irene (Domery) Riley. 

     Mrs. Hilligas was a homemaker. Before retiring, she was employed as a teacher with the Hudson City School District for over 20 years. Mrs. Hilligas was a homemaker. Mrs. Hilligas was a member of the Business and Professional Women, the American Legion Auxiliary and Holy Family Church in Stottville. She was a former member of the Columbia Golf and Country Club and Mount Carmel Church. 

     Surviving are her husband, Edward W. Hilligas Sr. of Claverack; seven children, Edward W. Hilligas Jr. of Claverack, Austin R. Hilligas of Charleston, S.C., Karen Risch of Ghent, Craig Hilligas of Clifton Park, Pamela I. Clark of Ghent and Linda I. Lupinos and Eric V. Hilligas, both of Greenport; 11 grandchildren, Casey M. Hilligas and Richard H. Hilligas, both of Latham, Jamie Risch Durgey of Chittenango, Madison County, Megan Risch of East Brunswick, N.J., Katherine Clark and Adam Clark, both of Ghent, Jennifer Hilligas of Charleston, Kimberly Hilligas, Heather Hilligas and Patrick Hilligas, all of Greenport, and Courtney Hilligas of Clifton Park; her brother, Edma Riley of Shaftsbury, Vt.; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother, Austin Riley.

KINDERHOOK  --  Joseph Michael Hoffa, 42, of West Shore Drive in Kinderhook, died on Saturday, August 7, 2004. 

     He was born on March 24, 1962 in Niskayuna, the son of Judith E. (Thompson) Hoffa of Craryville, N.Y. and the late James P. Hoffa Sr. He had been a resident of Colonie before moving to Craryville in 1979. Mr. Hoffa was a graduate of Taconic Hills Central School in 1980 and was the owner of J.J.'s Pizza in Craryville and later J.J. Pizza and Pub in Copake from 1992-2004. He was also a self-employed electrical contractor in Columbia County. Joseph was a member of the Wednesday Night Golf League at Copake Country Club, a member of Tuesday Night A.P.A. Pool League in Columbia County and an avid fan of the New York Yankees, New York Giants and Dale Earnhardt Sr. 

     Surviving are his daughter, Jennafer Hoffa of Kinderhook; his mother, Judith E. Hoffa of Craryville; a sister and brother-in-law, Jacquelyn and Scott Decker of Craryville; two nephews, Scott and Dylan Decker; an uncle and aunt, Richard and Toni Bolton of Las Vegas; two cousins, John Paul Bolton and Jessica Lynn Bolton. He was predeceased by his father, James P. Hoffa Sr. in 1975; and a brother, James P. Hoffa Jr. in 1980. 

     The Liturgy of the Word will be celebrated on Thursday at 11:00 a.m. at St. Bridget's Roman Catholic Church, Route 22 in Copake Falls with the Rev. Joseph Falletta, pastor, officiating. Friends are invited and may call on Wednesday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Peck and Peck Funeral Home, Route 22 in Copake. Interment will be in St. Bridget's Cemetery. Holzwarth, Ralph E.   --  10/6/2004
  NIVERVILLE, N.Y.  --  Ralph E. Holzwarth, 81, of Niverville and a longtime resident of Syracuse, died on September 28, 2004 after a long struggle with heart disease. 

     He graduated from Syracuse University in 1948, where he was editor of the Daily Orange and a member of Phi Kappa Alpha. He served in World War II in the 11th armored division, seeing action in the Battle of the Bulge. He returned to Paris to live for several years after the war and contributed a series of stories to the Post Standard on everyday life in France as it rebuilt. He loved French cuisine. Ralph was director of public relations for General Electric for many years and was later manager of government affairs for the Niagara Mohawk Power Corporation, from which he retired in the 1980s. A lover of railroads, Ralph traveled extensively in Europe and the U.S. in his retirement, and wrote many articles describing his trips, most often for the International Railway Traveler where he was a contributing editor. He served as press representative for the Albany chapter of the National Railroad Society and was also extremely devoted to the Chautauqua Institute where he worked as headline writer of the Chautauqua Daily for many summers, including this past one. 

     He is survived by his second wife, Christine Lyons Holzwarth; two sons, Doug (Heather) and Eric (Anne Barash); brothers, Bruce (Aldreth) and Paul (Anne); and sisters, Carol Cox and Anne (Don) Hutchins. 

     Memorial services will be held on Sunday, October 17 at the Niverville Methodist Church at 2:00 p.m. and Saturday, October 23 at University United Methodist Church in Syracuse at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to your local hospice foundation.      He was born in Woodbury, N.J. on August 4, 1967 and moved to Upstate N.Y. in 1976. 

     He attended Ichabod Crane School District. Was an independent carpenter with many other talents in home construction, plumbing, siding, foundations, roofing and mechanics. He also loved to play with any motorized sport vehicle and loved the outdoors. He was a very good person with a big heart and loved by all who knew him, especially with his winning smile that could melt anyone's heart. 

     Jimmy is survived by his parents, James E. and Carol (DeWalt) Howley; two older sisters, Denice M. Gonzalez of Playa Del Carmen, Mexico and Teresa Joan Gaylord Jr. of Gallatin, N.Y.; and her two daughters, Candace and Keyanna.

Iacovelli, Joseph V.   --  9/1/2004 
  CLAVERACK  --  Joseph V. Iacovelli, 79, of Stone Mill Rd., Claverack, N.Y., formerly of Valatie, died Tuesday, August 31, 2004 at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Albany. 

     Born in New York City, March 19, 1925, he was the son of the late Michael and Maria (Fazio) Iacovelli. 

     Mr. Iacovelli was a World War II veteran with the US Army and was employed by the Department of Agriculture in Albany as a federal meat inspector. He retired in 1987. He was also a communicant of St. John the Baptist Church in Valatie. 

     He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Marianna (Squicciarine) Iacovelli; one daughter, Mary Jo Iacovelli of Rensselaer, N.Y.; three sons, Michael J. Iacovelli of Smithtown, Long Island, John L. Iacovelli of Boca Raton, Fla. and Peter T. Iacovelli of Coxsackie, N.Y.; one brother, Louis Iacovelli of Valley Stream, Long Island; grandchildren, Michael, Karen, Joanna, Ben and Thomas. 

     A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday 1:00 p.m. at St. John the Baptist Church, Route 9, Valatie with Rev. John Molyn officiating. Interment will be in St. John's Cemetery. Ibert, Paul L.   -- 12/2/2004
CHATHAM CENTER, N.Y.  --  Paul L. Ibert, 82, of Route 28, Chatham Center, died Tuesday, November 30, 2004 at Columbia Memorial Hospital, Hudson. 

     Born in Albany, January 11, 1922, he was the son of the late Edward and Lillian (Tinney) Ibert. 

     Paul was a World War II veteran with the U.S. Navy and worked for Sterling Winthrop in Rensselaer as a supervisor before retiring in 1984. He was a 50 year member of the Valatie Lodge #362 F&AM, a member of the Cypress Temple in Albany and a member of St. Luke's Lutheran Church, Valatie. 

     He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Dorothy (Oelkers) Ibert; one son, Paul W. Ibert of Chittenango, N.Y.; a nephew, William Cooper of Kinderhook, N.Y.; two grandchildren, Christine Ibert of Trumansburg, N.Y. and Daniel Ibert of Charlotte, N.C.; and a great-granddaughter, Lily Catherine Herman. 

     Funeral services will be held Friday at 2:00 p.m. from the Raymond E. Bond Funeral Home, Rt. 9, Valatie with the service conducted by Rev. James Slater. Interment will be in Stuyvesant Falls Cemetery. Friends may call Thursday from 4-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Ingalls, Harvey P.   --  7/1/2004 - 7/2/2004
  NIVERVILLE  --  Harvey Potter Ingalls, age 76, died Tuesday, June 29, 2004 at Albany Medical Center. He was the eldest son of the late Edmund H. and Marion Potter Ingalls of Castleton-on-Hudson. A brother, James, and his sisters, Claire (Mrs. William) Goodlow and Anne (Mrs. Robert) Peterson predeceased him. He was also the stepson of the late Vivian Jones Ingalls. 

     He graduated from Castleton Union High School and Syracuse University. He served in the Marine Corps and worked 25 years as the baseball plant manager of J. deBeer and Sons in Albany. 

     His former wife, Beverly J. Heald, and their five children, Denise (Mrs. Robert) King, Keith, Richard, Philip and Joyce (Mrs. Wayne) Whitney survive him. He also leaves four granddaughters, Kisha, Cortny and Dorothy Ingalls (Philip's daughters) and Lora Whitney. He is also survived by his loving partner, Elizabeth (Betty) Kappes.

Paul R. Johann   --  1/20/2005
NIVERVILLE  --  Paul R. Johann, 76, of E. Shore Dr., Niverville, N.Y., died suddenly Wednesday, January 19, 2005 at his residence. 

    Born in Albany in 1928, the son of the late Raymond J. and Gertrude (Murphy) Johann, he attended North Chatham School, Albany Public Schools, Christian Brothers Academy and was a graduate of Siena College and SUNYA School of Education. 

    Paul spent his career as a teacher and school administrator in Valatie, Dutchess County, Saratoga Springs, Massachusetts and Albany County. He was the founding principal of Taconic High School in Pittsfield. He retired from state service in 1990 as state agency administrator with the Albany Division of Substance Abuse Services. Professionally, he served as president of the Ichabod Crane CS Teachers Assoc., president of Berkshire County Principals Assoc., director of Massachusetts School Administrators and Phi Delta Kappa Fraternity. Paul was a member of the Lions Club, Kinderhook Lake Corp., docent of the Albany Institute of History and Art, newsreader on RISE radio (WMHT) and trustee and president of the Valatie Free Library. He was a charter member of Winding Brook Country Club and was active in scouting for many years as co-cubmaster of Pack 117 and Boy Scout Troop 113 committee chairman. He was also a committeeman for the Town of Chatham Democratic Committee. 

    Paul was the husband of Sylvia (Katz) Johann and the father of Daniel Johann. He is survived by his mother-in-law, Rose Katz; brother and sister-in-law, Sanford and Mildred Mortan; and several cousins. 

    A memorial service will be held Friday at 11:00 a.m. from the Raymond E. Bond Funeral Home, Rt. 9, Valatie with the service conducted by Rabbi Daniel Fried. Interment will be at the convenience of the family. Kelly, Alice Hand   --  8/31/2004
VALATIE  --  Alice Hand Kelly, 93, of Valatie, passed away Monday, August 30, 2004 in Barnwell Health Facilities, Valatie. 

     Born October 3, 1910 in Kinderhook, she was the daughter of the late John Clinton and the late Alice Edwards (Osborn) Hand and the wife of the late William J. Kelly. 

     She was a 1929 graduate of Hudson High School. She then earned her bachelor's degree at Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs in 1933. She then became a registered nurse for Mary McClellan Hospital in Cambridge, the Columbia Memorial Hospital in Hudson and the Barnwell Nursing Home in Valatie before retiring. Mrs. Kelly was a member of St. John the Baptist Church, Valatie and Rebekka's Lodge in Valatie. 

     She is survived by her son, John W. Kelly of Valatie; her sister, Adela Hand Hiller of Valatie; three grandchildren, John W. Jr., Pamela Jean and James Patrick Kelly. Alice is also survived by three nieces, one nephew and several cousins. One brother, John Osborn Hand predeceased her. 

     Friends may call Wednesday from 2-4 p.m. in the Raymond E. Bond Funeral Home, Rt. 9, Valatie. Funeral will be held at St. John the Baptist Church, Route 9, Valatie, Thursday at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in the church's cemetery. Kelly, John E.  --  1/23/2005 
KINDERHOOK  --  John E. Kelly, of Kinderhook, passed away at his residence in Stuart, Fla. on January 20, 2005.

     He was born in Poughkeepsie, N.Y. in 1925. 

     A year later, he moved to Kinderhook when his parents, Anastasia Early and Frank A. Kelly Sr., purchased the Valatie Telephone Co. His brother, Frank A. Kelly Jr., and sister, Nancy Maloy, predeceased him. He attended the Martin Van Buren School and graduated from the New York Maritime Academy. After brief war service, he joined the family business, which had become Berkshire Telephone Corporation. After his retirement from the business, he served as board chairman until his death. He was a founding member of the Kinderhook Village Planning Board, a director of the Hudson River Bank and Trust Company and a past director of the New York State Telecommunications Association. He particularly enjoyed his relationship with the Berkshire Telephone staff and his friendships through the Telephone Association of New England, the 50 Club of Columbia County, Columbia Golf and Country Club and the Old Chatham Hunt Club. 

     He is survived by his wife Joan; daughters, Lisa Thompson and Katherine Pesano; son-in-law, David Pesano; grandchildren, Ashley Thompson, Cameron Thompson, Hanna Pesano, Elizabeth Pesano and Peter Pesano. 

     A memorial service will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, January 28, 2005 at the St. John the Baptist Church, Valatie. A reception will follow at the family home at 9 Broad Street, Kinderhook. Mr. Kelly was deeply committed to his community and memorial contributions may be made to the Columbia County Historical Society-Vanderpoel Initiative, Kinderhook or to a charity of personal choice.   [Published in the Times Union, Albany, NY.]

EAST CHATHAM, N.Y.  --  William Kimok, 74, of East Chatham, died Tuesday, October 26, 2004 at St. Peter's Hospital, Albany, N.Y. 

     Mr. Kimok, born February 20, 1930 in Yonkers, N.Y., is the son of the late Michael and Anna (Sadik) Kimok. 

     He graduated from Chatham High School and Albany Business College with a degree in business administration and accounting. Mr. Kimok was employed in construction with the Ironworker's Local #12 in Albany for many years, retiring in 1990. He also was a self-employed tax preparer in the East Chatham area for many years and coached Little League for 10 years. 

     Mr. Kimok is survived by his wife, Yvonne (Bemiss) Kimok of East Chatham; three sons, William M. Kimok of The Plains, Ohio, David J. Kimok and Jeffrey Kimok, both of Plainfield, Conn., and a daughter, Victoria Castellani of Pittsfield, Mass.; a sister, Helen Westover of Ravena, N.Y. Also survived by seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild. 

     Funeral services will be held Friday 9:30 a.m. from the Wenk Funeral Home, Chatham with the Reverend Gary Gelfenbien, pastor of St. James R.C. Church of Chatham, officiating.      Mr. Konis was born and educated in Amsterdam, son of the late John and Mary Skizinski Konis. 

     He was owner and operator of Konis Carpet Company. Mr. Konis was a communicant of St. Mary's Church in Nassau. 

     He was husband of the late Genevieve Williams Konis. Survivors include two daughters, Judith Pelaquin of Reidsville, Ga. and Virginia (Richard) Vuolo of Kinderhook; grandchildren, Darlene (Michael) Miller of East Greenbush, Linda (Patrick) Colwell of Kinderhook, Nancy (William) Graziano of Kinderhook, Deborah (Eric) Wheeler of Kinderhook, Darlene Pelaquin of Reidsville, Ga.; siblings, Josephine Seyboth of Albany and Frank Koniszewski of Nori, Mich.; great-grandchildren, Carson and Cameron Miller, Marissa Wheeler and Russell Pelaquin. Krueger, Rulison Charles   --  12/22/2004
LIVINGSTON, N.Y.  --  Rulison Charles Krueger, 102, of Adventist Nursing Home, Livingston, died Tuesday, December 21, 2004 at the home. 

     Born in Scotia, N.Y., he was the son of the late Ernest Krueger and Susan (Bowers) Krueger and husband of the late Ruby H. Bell Krueger. 

     He had resided on Blue Factory Road in Poestenkill for over 40 years and was educated at Scotia High School. Mr. Krueger was employed as a self-employed house painter for many years and, upon his retirement, painted for Vanderheyden Hall in Wynantskill. He was a member of Seventh Day Adventist Church in Saratoga Springs and was an accomplished violinist. 

     Survivors include two daughters, Marjorie Marston (Robert) of Livingston and Marian Bearden (Floyd) of Siloam Springs, Ark.; two sons, Carl Krueger (Connie) of Gentry, Ark. and Dr. Myron (Doris) Krueger of Brunswick, Maine; 13 grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren.

Lally, William F., Jr.   --  5/18/2004 - 5/19/2004
  KINDERHOOK  -  William F. Lally, Jr., 82, of Kinderhook, passed away on Thursday, May 13, 2004 at the home of his daughter, Maria Lally Clark, surrounded by his loving family. 

     Bill was born on October 20, 1921 in Yonkers, N.Y., the son of William F. Lally, Sr., Esq and Veronica Radford Lally. He was a 1938 graduate of Regis High School in Manhattan. He attended Manhattan College for one year and then entered the United State Naval Academy at Annapolis in 1939, graduating cum laude in 1942. Upon his graduation, Bill served in the United States Navy, mainly in the South Pacific for six years and was discharged in 1948 as a Lieutenant S.G. After his honorable discharge from the U.S. Navy in 1948, Bill worked in advertising in New York and served as assistant to the general manager of Pfizer Laboratories, later serving as director of advertising at Pfizer Laboratories. He left Pfizer in 1961 and pursued a career teaching mathematics. During this time, Bill also earned his master's degree in mathematics from Adelphi University. Bill taught mathematics at Jericho High School on Long Island from 1962-68 and at Mt. Anthony Union High School in Bennington, Vt. from 1968-1982. He served as president of the Southwestern Vermont Education Association from 1979-82. Upon his retirement from teaching in 1982, he entered Albany Law School, where he earned his J.D. in 1985. He served as an assistant District Attorney in Columbia County, N.Y. from 1986-87 and later engaged in the private practice of law with his son, Sean, at the firm of Lally and Lally P.C. until his retirement in 2003. During the last 10 years of his life, Bill was especially proud of having added Spanish to his repertoire of foreign languages, learning the language partly in exchange for providing free legal services to a Spanish speaking community through a local church. Bill was admitted to the New York State Bar, the United States District Court for the Northern District of New York and the United States Supreme Court. He was a member of the Columbia County Bar Association. 

     He married Margaret F. Lally on June 18, 1949. Margaret passed away on October 11, 2003. He is survived by four daughters, Mary Ellen Lally-Pinette (Mark) of Roswell, Ga., Monica L. Myers (Ronald) of Frederick, Md., Maria Lally Clark, Esq. (John) of Valatie, N.Y., Mary Francis Casey (Bill) Morris of Rexford, N.Y.; also survived by two sons, Christopher M. Lally (Patti) of Concord, N.H. and Sean P. Lally, Esq of Kinderhook. Bill is also survived by a special friend of the family, whom he informally adopted as the sixth daughter and ninth child, Lisa Verschoor Smith of Cambridge, N.Y.; also survived by nine grandchildren, Nicholas Millington Lally of Bennington, Vt., Dylan N. de Kervor of Laurel, Md, Kaitlin L. Pinette and Emma L. Pinette of Roswell, Ga., Hannah C. Lally and Michael S. Lally of Concord, N.H., Margaret M. Clark and Regina A. Clark of Valatie and Benjamin K. Morris of Rexford; four sisters and one brother, Mrs. Francis M. (Clare) Farrell of Silver Spring, Md., Mrs. A. Davis Jordan (Vera) of Rockville Centre and West Gilgo Beach, N.Y., Mrs. Roland S. Inlow (Rosemary) of McLean, Va., Mrs. Aileen L. Ferguson of Wilmington, N.C. and James R. Lally of Nanuet, N.Y. He was predeceased by his son, William F. Lally, III; his daughter, Siobhan Lally de Kervor. 

     At Mr. Lally's express request, there will be no calling hours. A funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, May 29, 2004 at 1 p.m. at St. John the Baptist Church, Route 9, Valatie, N.Y. Burial will be at the family's convenience at the United States Naval Academy, Annapolis, Md. and will be announced at a later date. The family wishes to acknowledge the loving and respectful care provided to Bill during the last several months by the staff of the Community Hospice of Columbia-Greene. Layton, Bonnie Jean   --  12/31/2004 
CHATHAM  --  Bonnie Jean Layton, 71, of Chatham, died Wednesday, December 29, 2004 at Columbia Memorial Hospital, Hudson, N.Y. Mrs. Layton was born April 22, 1933 in Swope, Va. 

     She attended school there and moved to the Chatham area in 1958 where she had resided since. She was a nurses aid for Purdy's and Larkin Nursing Home for several years, and was employed with Chatco in Chatham as a printer for several years, and a sales clerk and customer service helper for Jamesway in Hudson for several years. Mrs. Layton was past president of the Chatham Fire Co. Ladies Auxiliary. 

     Mrs. Layton is survived by husband of 53 years, Palmer G. Layton of Chatham; three daughters, Carolyn (Sue) Layton of Chatham, Linda Vinchiarello of Valatie, Pamela Barnes of Freehold, N.Y.; three sons, Steven Layton of Kinderhook, James (JP) Layton of Chatham and Walter Layton of Chatham. Also survived by 19 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.

     Born in Albany, N.Y., February 13, 1946, he was the son of the late Edward Liptak and Stella (Ragule) Liptak who resides in Rensselaer. Mike was a Vietnam veteran with the U.S. Navy and a graduate of St. John's Academy in Rensselaer. He was a longtime former owner of the Carolina House in Kinderhook, a board member of the Hudson Powerboat Association and a member of St. John the Baptist Church in Valatie. 

     Besides his mother, he is survived by his wife, Karen (D'Arcy) Liptak; three daughters, Michelle Liptak of Kinderhook, Nicole Canuteson of Kinderhook and Amy Liptak-Cook of Kinderhook; five sisters, Genevieve West of Newburgh, N.Y., Theresa Pike of Rensselaer, N.Y., Sr. Mary Lou Liptak of Berne, N.Y., Ann Marie Liptak of Rensselaer, Agnes Petrucci of Wynantskill, N.Y.; two brothers, Edward Liptak of Lake Charles, La. and Vincent Liptak of Valatie, N.Y.; six grandchildren, Christian and Rachel Pesano, Emily and Abigail Canuteson and Olivia and Jared Cook.

     Born in Hudson, N.Y., May 28, 1964, she was the daughter of the late Henry Minshell and Margaret (Gronbach) Minshell of Valatie. Sue was a 1982 graduate of Ichabod Crane High School and was presently employed by the Kleeber Agency in Valatie as an insurance representative for the past 22 years. 

     Besides her mother, Margaret, she is survived by her husband, Brian Little; two brothers, Carl and Scott Minshell, both of Valatie; and a nephew, Justin Minshell.

GHENT J. Gregory Lodge, 65, of Old Post Rd., Ghent, N.Y., died Saturday, January 22, 2005 at St. Peter's Hospital, Albany, N.Y. 

     Born in Albany, January 9, 1940, he was the son of the late Barrington and Mary (O'Brien) Lodge. Mr. 

     Lodge was a graduate of RPI and a systems analyst for Vision Data Corp. in Rensselaer. 

     He is survived by one sister, Mary Judith Lodge of Lancaster, N.H.; one brother, Barrington Lodge of Honolulu, Hawaii; and several cousins and friends.

VALATIE  --  Edith M. Logan, formerly Kerr, died Tuesday, August 31, 2004 at Barnwell Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center in Valatie, N.Y. 

     Edith was born in Adams, Mass. on October 14, 1912. She was the wife of the late Charles H. Logan Sr. She resided in Pittsfield, Cheshire, Canaan and then in Valatie. Edith was a devoted housewife and mother. She leaves three daughters, Marjorie Caesar of Pittsfield, Chorlotte Williams of St. Albans, Barbara Logan-Brown of Valatie; two sons, Charles H. Logan Jr. of Valatie and Darrel Logan of Rotterdam; grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. 

     Edith had always expressed that she desired neither a funeral or wake and her wishes will be respected. Love, Marilyn   --  12/31/2004 

  KINDERHOOK  --  Marilyn (Johnson) Love passed away peacefully at Barnwell Nursing Home on December 30, 2004 in the year of our Lord. 

     Marilyn was the daughter of the late Emma and Adam Johnson. She left behind her devoted husband, Robert, and beloved children, Margarett Schou, Sue DeLilli, Arnold Love and Philip Love, along with 10 cherished grandchildren. Marilyn was born on April 30, 1928 and raised in Youngstown, Ohio where her sister, Margarett Hegel, and brothers, Adam C. and James Hal Johnson, still reside. 

     She was a graduate of Mineral Ridge High School and attended Youngstown University. Marilyn was very active in the Christian Women's Association. In the 1980s, she was fondly known as The Candy Lady of Kinderhook, where her chocolates sweetened the lives of many friends and family. Marilyn will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved her. 

     A memorial service will be held at the Niverville United Methodist Church in Niverville, N.Y., Sunday, January 2 at 3 p.m. There will be no viewing hours and interment will be at a later date. Lundy, Joseph J.  --  6/3/2004
OLD CHATHAM  --  Joseph J. Lundy, 63, of Old Chatham, died suddenly Tuesday, June 1, 2004 at Columbia Memorial Hospital in Hudson, after being stricken at home. 

     Joe was born in Chatham and lived in the Town of Chatham all his life. He was the son of the late Thomas and Florence Lundy. He was a graduate of Chatham High School and a US Navy veteran. Joe was a laborer for Laborers Local #190 for many years until becoming foreman at Kinderhill Farm in Old Chatham. After the farm went out of business, he worked for Schrader Home Interiors for 10 years, retiring this past February. Joe was also a parking lot attendant for the Mooney Funeral Home for 26 years. Joe was a life member of the Tri Village Fire Co. in Old Chatham, a member of the Milk and Honey Club and a Democratic Committeeman for the Town of Chatham.

     Survivors include his wife, Gail Holt Lundy; a daughter, Paula (Christopher) Franchi of West Sand Lake; a son, Scott (Amy) Lundy of Canaan; two grandchildren, Camaryn and Jake Franchi. He was predeceased by his brothers, Lawrence and Thomas (Tuck) Lundy. 

     A funeral service will be held at the Wesley Methodist Church in Malden Bridge on Friday morning at 11. Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the Thomas P. Lynde, Robert C.   --  5/18/2004
  NASSAU Lovingly surrounded by his family, Robert C. Lynde, a longtime resident of Nassau, N.Y., passed away on Monday, May 17, 2004 at St. Peter's Hospital, Albany. 

     Robert was born April 17, 1940 in Clinton, Mass. He was the son of the late Charles and Alice Lynde. He graduated from Clinton High School and served in the Marines in both Lebanon and Vietnam. Later he graduated from Worcester Polytechnical Institute in Mass. He was employed for many years by Ingentronics in Clinton, Mass. and moved to New York to work at Coleco Industries in Mayfield, N.Y. He also worked at Ket Products in Rensselaer, N.Y. Bob was the founder, owner and driving force of LSM Labs in Ravena, N.Y. until 2002. Most recently, he was a partner in B&M Silicones in West Lebanon, N.Y. Bob was an avid bowhunter and archer. He was a member of the New York Field Archers and Bowhunters, the National Field Archers Association and the International Bowhunters Association. Over the years, he was an active member and officer at the Pine Tree Archery in Johnstown, Tri-Village Archers in Nassau, RC Sportsman's Club and The Eagle's Nest in Nassau. Bob volunteered as an instructor for the New York State Bowhunters' class. For many years he organized and led a youth archery club in the village of Nassau. Bob was a treasurer for Cub Scout Den 166 in Nassau and an assistant scout master for Troop 522 in East Schodack. He also volunteered as a coach and umpire for Nassau Little League. 

     He was married to Mary A. Boyvin Lynde who predeceased him in 1983. With Mary he has three children, Christina (David) Miller of Sprakers, Sherrie (Frank) Rice of Castleton and Todd (Lauri) Lynde of Castleton. He is survived by his second wife, Susan (Norton) Lynde whom he married in 1985. They shared a son, Patrick Robert Lynde of Nassau. Bob had five grandchildren, David Miller, Eric Miller, Francis Rice, Kylien Lynde and Jacquelyn Lynde. Bob will also be missed by his canine kids Riley, Laddie and Misty. 

     Bob's family would like to thank Peter, Chris, Muhammad, Glenn, Darren, Sharlie and the other members of the fourth floor staff at St. Peter's Hospital for their compassionate and dedicated care of Bob during his short stay.

MacGregor, Hugh Skip H.   --  1/3/2005 
CHATHAM  --  Hugh SKip H. MacGregor, 42, of Chatham passed away Saturday, January 1, 2005 at his home. 

     Born November 15, 1962 in Albany, he was the beloved son of Jane R. Rose of Valatie and the late Hugh H. MacGregor. 

     Skip loved music, playing his drums, guitar, harmonica and participating in family musicals with his nieces and nephews. He had his own paper route for several years and was named Register Star's Newspaper Carrier of the Year. For 20 years he was employed by COARC. Skip loved sports and competing in the NYS Special Olympics in track. He also loved bowling, bicycling, swimming, cross country skiing and fishing. 

     Besides his mother, Skip is also survived by his brother, William MacGregor (Millicent); sisters, Kim Law, Cindy Novak (Robert), Bonnie Leppert (Richard) and several nieces and nephews. Besides his father, he also is predeceased by his stepfather, Edgar S. Rose Jr. 

     Calling hours will be held today (Monday) from 5 to 8 p.m. in the Raymond E. Bond Funeral Home, Rt. 9, Valatie. Funeral services and burial will be private at the convenience of the family. MacNish, Florence Dick   --  7/4/2004
CHATHAM Florence Dick MacNish of Chatham, a well-known and admired teacher in the Roeliff Jansen School District from 1947 to 1964, died July 1, 2004 at Barnwell Nursing Home. 

     She was born September 20, 1909 in Tuckahoe, N.Y. and had lived in Spencertown, Austerlitz and Chatham for many years. She graduated from Jamaica Training School for Teachers in 1928 and held a master's in elementary education from the University of Hartford, Conn. A member of St. Peter's Presbyterian Church in Spencertown since 1932, she was a also a ruling elder and member of the Women's and Tower Clubs of that church. She was also a member of the Retired Teacher's Club. Mrs. MacNish was active in 4-H Club leadership for 20 years, beginning in 1942. She and her husband operated a farm in Spencertown and a chicken farm in Austerlitz for many years. After her retirement from teaching, Mrs. MacNish was box office manager at the Mac-Haydn Theatre in Chatham for over 25 years. The support of Mrs. MacNish and of Preston MacNish in its early years contributed greatly to the success of the popular professional musical theatre, which was co-founded by their late daughter, Linda J. MacNish. Her interest in both writing and theatre combined when she wrote The Pied Piper for the Mac-Haydn Children's Theatre presentation several years ago. Always warm and vital, she had many interests. She wrote poetry all her life, which led to her friendship with Edna St. Vincent Millay. She was also an accomplished painter. 

     Mrs. MacNish is predeceased by her husband, Preston MacNish, and her daughter, Linda J. MacNish. She is survived by a son, Robert MacNish of Tucson, Ariz.; two grandsons, Joseph and Jesse; a sister, Peggy Rundell, of Schodack, N.Y. and her adopted daughter, Lynne Haydn of Chatham, N.Y. 

     A memorial service will be held Wednesday, July 7 at 11:30 a.m. at St. Peter's Presbyterian Church in Spencertown. A reception will follow. Mandel, Stephan Marton    --  5/23/2004
HILLSDALE  --  Columbia County Historical Society President, Steve Mandel, 67, died on May 15, 2004 at Memorial Sloan Kettering Hospital in New York City of lung cancer. 

     An enthusiastic resident of Columbia County since 1978, he greatly enjoyed gardening and receiving friends at his home in Hillsdale. He also particularly relished opera, art and historic preservation. At his death, he had been president of the Columbia County Historical Society for a year and a half. Steve excelled at identifying talented people and inspiring them to contribute their skills and passion to the Society. As a result, during his short tenure as president, board and committee members led efforts that resulted in record membership, grants, Society publications, and community support. He was also an active member of the Old Chatham Hunt Club. 

     He was born July 28, 1936 to Judith and Abraham Mandel of Merrick, L.I. where he grew up. He graduated from Mepham High School in neighboring Bellmore, where he was president of the Drama Society, manager of the track team and president of the Honor Society. A graduate of Yale College, he organized a 20-school drama festival there, which continued for many years after his 1957 graduation. He attended Harvard Law School before joining the family business, Sumner Stores Corp., a chain of family apparel stores in the South and Southwest. He served as its president and as head of the related trade association for many years. 

     His first wife of 30 years, Albany native Patricia Fitzgerald Mandel, was very active in Columbia County civic affairs. He is survived by his second wife, Heidi S. Fiske; his sister, Linda E. Mandel; his brother-in-law, Pierre Clerk; his sister-in-law, Susan Fiske Michelson; and many cousins. 

     A memorial service will be held in Columbia County at a later date. VALATIE  --  Claire T. Manti, 78, a resident of Barnwell Health Facilities, died Saturday July 24, 2004 at Albany Memorial Hospital. 

     Born in Albany, N.Y., July 20, 1926, she was the daughter of the late Ellsworth and Catherine (Stickles) McCoon. Claire worked for the Office of the Aging as a senior companion and was a member of several organizations including the Kinderhook Lake Improvement Assoc., Tri-Village Senior Citizens, St. John the Baptist Church and St. John's Elves. 

     She was the beloved mother of Cheryl Sico, Middle Island, N.Y.; beloved sister of Mrs. Paul (Twinkie) Uhl, Colonie, N.Y. and Duane McCoon of Turmbell, Conn.; beloved grandmother of Allison and Alex Sico. She was predeceased by her son, James Manti; a sister, Audrey Gardinier and two brothers, Donald and Gerald McCoon. 

     A memorial mass at St. John the Baptist Church in Valatie will be held at a later date. VALATIE  --  E. Shirley March, 74, a resident of Barnwell Health Facilities, Valatie, who lived most of her life in Columbia County, entered into eternal life on Thursday, November 18, 2004 at Barnwell Health Facilities, surrounded by her loving family. 

     Born in Albany, N.Y., February 2, 1930, she was the daughter of the late Arnold and Evelyn (Batchelder) Phelps. Shirley worked in food service and was a bookkeeper. She was a member of the Eda Chapter Order of the Eastern Star and the Ghent Reformed Church. 

     She is survived by one daughter, Jeanette Gile and her husband Roger of Chatham Center, N.Y.; four sons, Charles March Jr. and his wife Joan of Chatham, N.Y., Arnold March and his wife Claudia of Kinderhook, N.Y., James March and his wife Phyllis of Fort Walton, Fla. and Michael March of Clifton Park, N.Y.; one sister, Carolyn Cuttler of Rensselaer, N.Y.; one brother, John Phelps of Nassau, N.Y.; and 12 grandchildren. She was predeceased by a sister, Barbara Steuerwald, and a grandson, Michael Joseph March 2nd. 

     Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. from the Raymond E. Bond Funeral Home, Rt. 9, Valatie with the service conducted by Rev. Eric Blahut. HUDSON, N.Y.  --  Juliette T. Marchionne, 84, died April 11, 2004 at Green Manor Nursing Home. 

     Born in Hudson, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Josephine Rossi. She was predeceased by her daughter, Kareen Elizabeth Blake and her three brothers, Edward, Romeo and Michael Rossi. A lifelong resident of Hudson, she dedicated her life as a homemaker and caregiver to her family. 

     She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Nicholas Marchionne Sr. of Union Street, Hudson; and by her son, Nicholas Marchionne Jr. of Guilderland, N.Y. She is also survived by four grandchildren, Nicholas (Ted) Marchionne of Craryville, N.Y., Darryl Marchionne of Greenville, S.C., James Blake of Mass. and Jeffrey Blake of East Chatham, N.Y. She was the proud great-grandmother of Ryan, Justine, Benjamin and Jeffrey Blake.

Moon, Amanda   --  7/2/2004
EAST CHATHAM  --  Amanda Moon, 10, of East Chatham, N.Y., died on Wednesday, June 30, 2004 at Albany Medical Center, Albany, N.Y. following injuries sustained in an accident near her home in East Chatham on June 25, 2004. Amanda had just completed fifth grade at Chatham Middle School. She was known for her infectious spirit, love of life and generous soul. Amanda maintained a menagerie of assorted pets, having a special fondness for chickens and ducks. She enjoyed singing and dancing, performing in children's productions at Mac-Haydn Theatre. She was born on July 23, 1993 in Pittsfield, Mass., the beloved daughter of Terry and Mary (Abrams) Moon. 

     Besides her parents, her brothers, David Moon, William Moon and Adam Moon survive her. Also surviving her are her grandparents, John S. and Marcia (Van Fleet) Abrams and James and Carol Moon; aunts and uncles, Jim and Judy Moon, Brad and Anita Moon, Sharon Moon and Lynn Donaldson; also aunts and uncles, Shawn and June Abrams, James and Deborah Southard and Stephen and Michelle Abrams. Also surviving are numerous cousins, flocks of chickens, ducks and assorted furred and feathered friends. A sister, Courtney Lynn Moon, uncle, Timothy Abrams, and cousins, Daniel Query and Jasson Jackson predeceased her. 

     Services will be held on Friday, July 2, 2004 from 4 to 8 p.m. at St. James R.C. Church, Chatham. A Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated on Saturday, July 3, 2004 at 10:00 a.m. at the St. James R.C. Church, Chatham with Rev. Father Gary P. Gelfenbien officiating. Burial will be in the family plot at the Cemetery of Maples, East Chatham, N.Y. Moon, Roland F., Sr.   --  11/29/2004
  HUDSON  --  Roland F. Moon Sr. (endearingly known as Moony or Rev), passed away peacefully Friday morning, November 26, 2004 at his home in Hudson, N.Y. 

     Born in Hudson on September 14, 1923 to parents Floyd and Viola Curran Moon. 

     He enjoyed a childhood of working on cars at his parent's gas station (Moon's Tire Shop) and summers at the family cottage at Lake Taconic, where he developed a respect for nature. During his Hudson High School years, Roland became an avid tennis player and very interested in photography. Upon graduation in 1941, he earned the privilege of attending Syracuse University that fall where he became a member of the Zeta Psi Fraternity-Gamma Chapter. At the same time, the world was under attack and our great country's safety was at risk. Like so many men in his age group, Roland was drafted into the Armed Forces cutting his college education short. This act of unselfishness would transcend throughout the rest of his adult life. While assigned to the United States Air Force, Roland found himself a radio man with a sergeants rank flying a total of seven bombing missions over Germany in a B-17 bomber. During his seventh mission over Swienfurt, a flack shell shot through the area of the B-17, where Roland was positioned taking off his right leg and severely injuring his left leg. Miraculously, the B-17 held together and the rest of the crew saved Roland's life 12,000 feet in the air. He spent many months following this experience rehabilitating in France. Roland was awarded the Purple Heart. After his return to the States, Roland began the next phase of his life by becoming executive officer and investigator for the Columbia County Alcohol Beverage Control Board from 1946 through 1976. While heading the ABC Board, Roland acted on his interests in literacy and started his own printing business which he owned and operated for more than 30 years in the city of Hudson. From 1976 through 1986, Roland made the transition to investigator for the New York State Workers' Compensation Board in Albany, N.Y. until his retirement. Roland possessed an enviable resume of civic involvement including life member of the Hudson Lodge of Elks 787, where he served as a trustee for six years, Hudson Bi-centennial Committee, life member of the Hudson C.H. Evans Hook and Ladder #3, served on the board of directors of the Hudson Boys Club for 10 years, life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1314, where he served as commander during 1986-1987, life member of the American Legion Post 184, member of the Hudson Power Boat Club for 18 years and was active in area stock car racing starting in the 1940s and served as secretary of Mutual Racing Associates.

     Roland is survived by his beloved wife, Rosemarie Grandinetti Moon; beloved daughter, Maria G. Moon of Albany County; dear friends, Jeannine Morell and her son Erik Johnson; son, Roland F. Moon Jr. and his wife Peggy of Hudson; beloved grandfather (Pa) of Joshua Paul Moon, Jackson Roland Moon and Jordan Christopher Moon. Roland also cared deeply for his golden retrievers, Sam and Jesse in addition to the many family members and friends, who added to the richness of his life.

STUYVESANT  --  Thaddeus J. Ted Mulica, 52, of Gypsy Rock Rd., Stuyvesant, N.Y. died Wednesday, March 24, 2004 at his home. 

     Born in Bronx, N.Y., April 3, 1951, he was the son of the late John and Wladyslawa (Meichweidowicz) Mulica. Ted was the owner of Stuyvesant Welding and a member of the Kinderhook Elks Lodge #2530. 

     He is survived by his wife Carole A. (Stiffler) Mulica; two sons, Richard Mulica and John Mulica of Stuyvesant; two grandsons, Tanner and Asah Mulica.

  VALATIE  --  Frank L. Mulligan, 76, of Valatie, passed away Saturday, July 17, 2004 in the Albany Medical Center. 

     Born January 5, 1928 in Cambridge, N.Y., he was the son of the late Thomas James and Margaret Mulligan and the husband of the late Patricia (Mc Keown). He served in the Army during World War II. Before retiring, Mr. Mulligan was the manager of Central Beer and Soda in Albany. He also was a member and past commander of the North Albany American Legion Post #1610. 

     He is survived by seven daughters, Patricia Shaffer of West Sand Lake, Sharon Weidlein of Puerto Rico, Deborah Minniear of Fla., Cindy Barford of Valatie, Kandy Girmindl of Valatie, Michele Hadley of Ore., Pegeen Mulligan Moore of Valatie; four sons, Thomas, Timothy and Terrance Mulligan, all of Albany and Ted Mulligan of Valatie; six sisters, Mary Cobb of Albany, Helen Bennett of Cambridge, Alice Mulligan of Cambridge, Peggy Connell of Troy, Jean Lesperance of Albany and Ceclie Fitzgerald of Saratoga. Frank is also survived by several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by one brother, Henry Mulligan and one daugher, Penny Mulligan.

CHATHAM  --  Joan M. Nabers, 75, of White Mills Rd., Chatham died Friday, August 6, 2004 at Berkshire Medical Center, Pittsfield, Mass. following a lengthy illness. 

     Mrs. Nabers was born September 13, 1928 in Chester, Pa. She is the daughter of the late James J. and Margaret (LaPierre) Mariner. A longtime resident of Hartsdale, N.Y., she graduated from Bronxville High School in White Plains, N.Y. Mrs. Nabers was a secretary to the president of B.B.D & O. Advertising Agency in New York City and later was administrative assistant to the superintendent of schools at Greenburgh Central Seven in Hartsdale, N.Y. She was predeceased by her first husband, J. Robert Farmer (1975). In 1984 she married Robert F. Nabers and moved to Chatham from Hartsdale, N.Y. Mrs. Nabers was a trustee of the First Presbyterian Church of Valatie, N.Y. and recording secretary of the Kinderhook Garden Club. 

     Besides her husband, Robert Nabers of Chatham, she is survived by a son, Robert J. Farmer and wife Lee Ann of Redondo Beach, Calif; grandchildren, Christopher and Madeline Farmer, both of Redondo Beach, Calif. Mrs. Nabers was predeceased by a daughter, Michele Farmer. 

     A memorial service will be held Monday 7:00 p.m. from the First Presbyterian Church of Valatie. There are no calling hours. O'Neil, Patricia A.   --  12/8/2004
KINDERHOOK  --  Patricia A. O'Neil, age 53, of Kinderhook, N.Y., died Monday, December 6, 2004 in Greenport, N.Y. as a result of a vehicle accident. 

     Mrs. O'Neil was born in the Buffalo, N.Y. area, the daughter of the late Robert Lilga and Nettie Hubbard Lilga who survives from Springville, N.Y. 

     She was a well known physical therapist and was making her rounds when the accident happened. She was also a consultant for EDDY Visiting Nurses Assoc. and Columbia County Nurses Assoc. She attended Russell Sage College in Troy, N.Y. She was very dedicated to her patients and very giving to others. She enjoyed her family, her garden and decorating her house for the holidays. 

     She is survived by her husband of 30 years, Thomas M. O'Neil; two sons, Craig T. O'Neil of San Diego, Calif. and Michael R. O'Neil of Kinderhook, N.Y.; two brothers, David Lilga of San Jose, Calif. and Michael Lilga of Richland, Wash.; and a sister, Diane Lilga of Delevan, N.Y.

VALATIE  --  Esther L. Potter Ostrander, 97, formerly of Brookview Road, Castleton, died Sunday, March 14, 2004 at Barnwell Nursing Home. 

     Born in Littleton, N.H., she was a lifelong resident of Brookview, N.Y. Esther will be fondly remembered for her great love of the outdoors. She was an avid gardener and was a fixture along Brookview Road, tending her gardens there for over 60 years. 

     Predeceased by her husband, Gustin; she is survived by her children, Gustin Ostrander (Marga) and James Ostrander (Huguette) of Castleton, Jeanette Patrie (Lewis) of Asheville, N.C.; also survived by six grandchildren, Theresa, Michael, Daphne, Mark, Keith and Lynn; numerous great-grandchildren. 

     Funeral services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at the Ray Funeral Home, 59 Seaman Avenue, Castleton, N.Y. Parsons, Muriel E.   --  6/20/2004
ANCRAM, N.Y.  --  Muriel E. Parsons, 91, of Ancram, died on Thursday, June 17, 2004 at her residence. 

     She was born on March 26, 1913 in Poughkeepsie, N.Y., the daughter of the late Harry C. and Bessie A. (Tripp) Piester. Mrs. Parsons graduated from the New York State Teachers College in Albany and was a longtime elementary school teacher. She was a member of the New York State Teacher's Association. Mrs. Parsons was recently honored to serve as grand marshal of the Town of Ancram Bicentennial Parade in 2003. She was an active member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Ancram and was also recently honored by the Eastern Christian Lutheran Association Synod for her many years of service to her church. Additionally, she served as church organist, Sunday School teacher, a member of the Altar Guild and the United Lutheran Church Women of America. 

     She was predeceased by her husband, Harold, and brother, Malcolm. Survivors include her daughter, Jane Stammel of Fuera Bush, N.Y.; grandsons, John and Michael; and great-grandchildren, Kaitlynn and Michael. 

     Funeral services will be held on Monday at 1:00 p.m. from St. John's Lutheran Church, County Route 7 in Ancram. Interment will be in Union Cemetery, Ancram. Passino, Mitchell J. III   --  4/29/2004

    CHATHAM CENTER  --  Mitchell J. Passino III, 47, of White Mills Rd., Chatham Center, died suddenly Sunday, April 25, 2004 in Atlantic City, N.J. 

     Mitchell was born in Albany, the son of Mitchell J. Passino Jr. of Nassau and the late Theresa Olszewski Passino. He grew up in Nassau where he lived until moving to Chatham Center in 1983. He served in the United States Navy from 1974 to 1978. He was employed by Gold Bond in Rensselaer for 20 years and, the last four years, he was a clerk at the N.Y.S. Education Department in Albany. 

     Along with his father, Mitchell is survived by his wife Bonnie Latham Passino; a son, Mitchell J. Passino IV (Darla) of Greenville; two daughters, Monica DeVito (Dennis) and Michele Govertsen (Scott), both of Chatham Center; a brother, Mark J. Passino of Nassau; six grandchildren; several aunts, uncles; and cousins. 

     Mitchell was the life of any party. He loved to play cards and play the slots. He loved to travel and vacationed frequently in any tropical climate. He was a wonderful son, husband, father and grandfather.

  NORTH CHATHAM  --  Richard W. Pratt, 76, of North Chatham, died Monday, October 18, 2004 at Stratton VA Medical Center. 

     Mr. Pratt was a native of Ghent in Columbia County. He had lived in Nassau for a time before moving to North Chatham in 1994. At the time of his death, he was a driver for Questar in Castleton with 17 years service. Mr. Pratt was an Army veteran of World War II, a member and past commander of the Nassau American Legion Post #1268, member of the Melvin Roads American Post #1231, a member of the Chandler-Young V.F.W. Post #8162, the Kinderhook Elks and past commander of the Ghent V.F.W. Post #5933. 

     Survivors include a daughter, Cheryl Westfall of Chatham; three sons, Richard Pratt of Fla., Kent Pratt of East Chatham and Kevin Pratt of Athens, N.Y.; a sister, Irene Whelpley of Nassau; two brothers, Floyd Pratt of Calif. and Phillip Pratt of Wash.; several grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and dear friends, Ann and Ted Devlin of Nassau.

     Ruth was a graduate of the Troy Music Conservatory. She taught piano in Nassau for many years. She was a member of the North Nassau Community Church. 

     Mrs. Prior was predeceased by her husband, Frank E. Prior. Survivors include a stepdaughter, Ann Flemming of Clinton Corners, N.Y.; two stepsons, Edmon R. Prior of Lysander, N.Y. and George A. Prior of Pottstown, Pa.; seven step-grandchildren, 11 great-step-grandchildren and several cousins.

Rahaim, Brother Paul Francis   --  1/24/2005
VALATIE  --  Brother Paul Francis Rahaim, C.S.C., a member of the Congregation of Holy Cross, died on January 22, 2005 at Columbia Memorial Hospital in Hudson. 

     He was born on June 20, 1938 in Quincy, Mass., the son of the late Edward A. and Emily (Owen) Rahaim. He is survived by his brother, Edward G. Rahaim of Canton, Mass.; a sister, Corinne Burrell of Burlington, Mass. He was predeceased by his sister, Caroline Jackson of Weymouth, Mass. 

     Brother Paul entered the Congregation of Holy Cross at St. Joseph Juniorate, Valatie, N.Y. in 1956. He made his first profession of vows as a Brother of Holy Cross in 1957 and his perpetual profession in 1960. Brother Paul was a teacher and administrator at several schools sponsored by the Brothers of the Holy Cross in Connecticut, New York and Washington, D.C. as well as at Saint Edward's University, Austin, Texas at Stonehill College, Easton, Mass. From 1967 to 1970, he was the head of the boys' department at the former Vincentian Institute in Albany. He also held positions in formation programs for the Congregation of Holy Cross in Massachusetts and Vermont. From 1985 to 1991, Brother Paul was the Provincial Superior of the Eastern Province of Holy Cross Brothers. 

     The wake for Brother Paul will be from 7 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday, January 25 at St. Joseph Center, 495 Maple Lane, Valatie. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in the Chapel of St. Joseph Center on Wednesday, January 26 at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow immediately in the Holy Cross Community Cemetery on the grounds of St. Joseph Center.      She was born in Albany, N.Y., the daughter of Daniel and Theresa (nee McElroy) Espey on July 11, 1933. 

     Mrs. Renner was an administrative assistant for over 30 years at Questar III, located in Castleton, N.Y. 

     She was predeceased by her husband, Charles J. Renner on February 8, 1994. She is survived by her daughters, Ruth Roberts and Holly Calyer; her mother, Theresa Reiser; grandchildren, Michael Calyer and Evan and Molly Roberts; and her brothers, Daniel Espey and Henry Reiser.

KINDERHOOK  --  Frances Rogers, 72, of Kinderhook, passed away Thursday, September 9, 2004 in St. Peter's Hospital, Albany. 

     Born December 3, 1931 in Schenectady, she was the daughter of the late Joseph Daniel and the late Callie (Miller) Casey and the wife of the late Joseph Vincent Rogers. 

     Before retiring, Mrs. Rogers was a factory technician for over 20 years for Crellin Plastics in Chatham. She is survived by one daughter, Michele Speer of Valatie; two sisters, Margaret A. and her husband Ed Monty of Colonie and Betty Yakman of Schenectady; one brother, Martin H. and his wife Patricia Casey of Stuyvesant; one granddaughter, Angelica Speer; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two brothers, Joseph Daniel and John Arthur Casey and her grandson, Jason Tilton.

KINDERHOOK, N.Y.  --  Paul David Rothermel, 41, of Kinderhook, passed away on Sunday, March 28, 2004. 

     Born in Albany, he was the son of the late Edward G. and Virginia (Mann) Rothermel of Kinderhook and the husband of Sarah (Arsenault) Rothermel. He was a hard working, self-employed heavy equipment operator for many years. Mr. Rothermel was a member of the Palmer Engine and Hose Co. of Kinderhook and the Kinderhook Elks. Paul was well known for his big smile and sense of humor. Besides his mother, Virginia and his wife Sarah, Paul is also survived by his two children, Raine Richmond and Gage Edward Rothermel; two sisters, Bonnie Lynn Rothermel Sutherland and Debra Lee Rothermel Lynch of Niskayuna; one brother, Charles Frederick Rothermel of Kinderhook. 

     Besides his father, Edward, he is also predeceased by one brother, William E. Rothermel and a nephew, Justin M. Lynch.

HUDSON  --  Camilla Ann Rouault, 76, of Burnett St., Valatie, N.Y., died Wednesday, January 5, 2005 at Columbia Memorial, Hudson, N.Y. 

     Born in Hudson, N.Y., July 6, 1928, she was the daughter of the late Andrew and Dorothy (Kipp) Clough. 

     Mrs. Rouault was a pilot with the Civil Air Patrol in the 1950s and worked for the NYS Dept. of Transportation as a computer operator. She was an avid gardner. 

     Survivors include her four daughters, Judith Carhart Goodrich of Maine, Linda Carhart of Indianapolis, Ind., Tertia Carhart of Rome, N.Y. and Karen Carhart Lettko of Buffalo, N.Y.; one son, Clifford Bauhoff of Valatie, N.Y. and 11 grandchildren. 

     Camilla's wishes were for sevices to be private for the family. VALATIE  --  Gloria M. Saulpaugh, 82, a lifelong resident of Valatie, died Friday, April 16, 2004 at her residence after a long illness. 

     Born in Valatie, N.Y., August 29, 1921, she was the daughter of the late John G. and Alma B. (Flouton) Saulpaugh. She was a homemaker. 

     She is survived by two sisters, Nina Mesick of Hudson and Geraldine Saulpaugh of Albany and several nieces, nephews, grand nieces and nephews and several cousins. She was predeceased by her son, Gary L. Krespan; a brother, Lawrence Saulpaugh Sr.; two sisters, Marie Beaupre and Gladys Ingraham.

HUDSON Mary E. Sgroi, 80, passed away peacefully on April 25, 2004, following a brief illness at Columbia Memorial Hospital, surrounded by her loving family and friends. 

     Born July 12, 1923 in Albany, she was the daughter of the late Edward and Margaret Fox. Mary was the devoted wife of the late Joseph Sgroi of Albany. She was the mother of Julia Ann Hunter of Claverack and Joseph W. Gallo of Midway Park, N.C.; she also leaves her brother, William Fox of Albany; a cherished friend, Valerie Leighton; also surviving are five grandchildren, Selina, Brian and Gail Hunter, Joey Gallo and Melissa Greenlaw; 11 great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by a sister, Margaret Fox Ellis; a brother, Edward Fox.

Shannon, Rena E. (MacLean)   --  6/23/2004
VALATIE  --  Rena E. (MacLean) Shannon, 81, formerly of West Springfield, Mass., died Monday, June 21, 2004 in Columbia Memorial Hospital in Hudson. 

     Rena was born in Springfield and lived in West Springfield most of her life before moving to Valatie last year. She was a retired cafeteria worker at the West Springfield Junior High School. She was a Christian Gathered Unto the Name of the Lord Jesus at the Gospel Hall in West Springfield. 

     Her husband, John W. Shannon, died in 1982 and her son, John Shannon, died in 2001. She leaves two sons, Guy of West Springfield, Mark and his wife Lynn of Wis.; a daughter, Bonnie and her husband, Ray Framarin, of Valatie, N.Y.; a daughter-in-law, Cathy; nine grandchildren, Carrie, Dawn, Heather, Kelly, Kimberly, Brooke, Michelle, Erin, Andrea; and nine great-grandchildren. 

     The funeral will be held at the West Springfield Curran-Jones Funeral Home, 109 Main St. on Friday at 11 a.m. followed by burial in Hillcrest Park Cemetery. Sirlin, Brendon J.   --  12/21/2004 
CHATHAM  --  Brendon Sirlin, age 17, cherished and beloved son of Robyn and Wayne Sirlin, passed from this life on December 18, 2004. His beloved brother and best friend, Joshua; paternal grandmother, Minnie Sirlin, maternal grandparents, Joseph Colucci and Rickie Carson; many loving aunts, uncles; cousins; wonderful extended family; and his great teachers, whom he held in high regard, also survive him. He is predeceased by his paternal grandfather, Bernard Sirlin. 

     Brendon, a special soul who touched all those he met, was an inspiration and confidant especially to young children and his peers. He lived his short life fully, with grace, charm, respect for others and gusto. Brendon was known for his fine sense of humor and his caring and sensitive presence. As a Chatham High School and former Hawthorne Valley School student, he participated and excelled in cross country, track and field, basketball and his great love, football. He was not afraid to show those in his life how much he loved them and displayed a presence and clarity of communication that was beyond his years. Brendon will forever remain a light in the lives of all with whom he shared his gracious love. 

     Services for Brendon will be held at the Hawthorne Valley School, Route 217, Harlemville. Calling hours will be Tuesday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. and a memorial service on Wednesday at 1:00 p.m. Chatham High School will hold a memorial service for Brendon on Thursday at 1:00 p.m. at the high school. Slocum, John   --  6/20/2004
  HOLLOWVILLE, N.Y.  --  John Slocum, 84, of Hollowville, died June 17, 2004 at Columbia Memorial Hospital in Hudson after a long illness. 

     A native of Burlington, Vt., he lived in Hollowville since 1968 with his wife, Adele Slocum. Mr. Slocum devoted 30 years of his life to the State University of New York and was involved in planning and executing its growth into a major university system. Among other roles, he served as executive dean for four-year colleges and professional colleges, as vice president for administration, and as a member of the three-man committee that administered the university system during a vacancy in the chancellor's office, 1958-59. Mr. Slocum was primarily responsible for negotiating arrangements for what became the Stony Brook University on Long Island, one of SUNY's four flagship research universities. He received his bachelor's and master's degrees at the University of Chicago and his Ph.D. in industrial and labor relations at Cornell University following Navy service in World War II. In 1965, he returned to his original academic field and was a professor of labor economics at the University at Albany from 1965 until his retirement in 1982. John Slocum was also deeply committed to international education efforts and directed the SUNY/Ford Foundation project to train Indonesian educators (1957-73), was a research professor at the Institute of Cypriot Studies, in Cyprus in 1971, and directed University at Albany international programs from 1966 to 1971. 

     In addition to his wife, Adele, he is survived by a son, Peter, and daughter-in-law, Ann Sayers, of Albany; two grandchildren, Emily Slocum of New York City and Molly Slocum of Moose Pass, Alaska; and a sister, Janet Franzoni, of Rutland, Vt. He was predeceased by his daughter, Sara Slocum.

Smith, Maude   --  6/1/2004
STUYVESANT  --  Maude Smith, 85, died May 30, 2004 at Columbia Memorial Hospital with her children at her bedside. Maude was married for 57 years to Walter E. Smith, Sr. of Stuyvesant until his passing in January, 2000. A lifetime resident of Stuyvesant, she spent the last four years in Barnwell Nursing Home in Valatie where her family made daily visits to see her and assist with her care. 

     Survivors are her son, Walter E. Smith, Jr. and his wife Sandra of Stuyvesant and daughter Diane Cooper of Castleton; grandchildren, Brian Smith and Lisa Cartwright, both of Stuyvesant, Glen Cooper of Ashburn, Va., Michelle Warner of Lakeview, NY, and two great-grandchildren, Logan and Carlie Warner of Lakeview. She is also survived by a sister-in-law, Helen Lisosky of Castleton and a brothers-in-law, Ralph Zelno of Stuyvesant and Dominick Corcione of Colonie. 

     Funeral Services will be held Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. from the Raymond E. Bond Funeral Home, Route 9, Valatie, NY. Interment will be in Schodack Landing Cemetery. CHATHAM  --  Richard Spickerman Jr., 44, of Chatham, joined his parents in the peace of God's love Saturday, August 21, 2004 at the Laurel Lake Nursing Home in Lee, Mass. following a lengthy illness. 

     Mr. Spickerman born September 5, 1959 in Albany, is the son of the late Richard and Mary (Barkman) Spickerman Sr. 

     After he graduated from Maple High School in Castleton, N.Y., he went to follow in his father's footsteps and became a truck driver. A lover of life, he was a guitarist and old car enthusiast. He enjoyed rebuilding old cars with his Dad. He is survived by a sister, Beverly and companion Jeff of Watervliet, N.Y.; a nephew, Don of Clearwater, Fla.; life long best friends, Dale VandeWal and Nadine Brookings as well as many cousins. 

     Graveside services will be held Sunday, August 29, 2004, 12 p.m. from the Margaretville Cemetery, Margaretville, N.Y. with Reverend Dave Spickerman officiating and following with a gathering at the home of Paul Spickerman, Main Street, Margaretville, N.Y. Stever, Dorothy W.   --  8/26/2004
VALATIE  --  Dorothy W. Stever, 70, of State Farm Rd., Valatie, N.Y. died Tuesday, August 24, 2004 at Albany Memorial Hospital. 

     Born in Kinderhook, N.Y., September 13, 1933, she was the daughter of the late Jarard and Mildred (Tiffany) Wadsworth. 

     Dot graduated from Martin VanBuren High School (K-12) and worked at the Kinderhook Bank for 29 years. She was co-owner of Butts Farm Service in Castleton with her husband Ira for 18 years, retiring in 1998. She was Chatham Fair Queen in 1951 as well as a member of the Niverville Methodist Church. Dot was an avid gardener who loved cooking and, by all accounts from her family, was one of the most enthusiastic sports (especially softball) fans around who rarely missed a game. 

     She is survived by her husband Ira O. Stever; four sons, Marc I. Stever and wife Darlene of Niverville, Jeffrey J. Stever of South Windsor, Conn., Gregory A. Stever and wife Kathleen of Valatie and Christopher M. Stever of Valatie; two brothers, Edward Wadsworth and wife June of Venice, Fla. and Gordon Wadsworth and wife Margaret of Hudson, N.Y.; five grandchildren, Melissa, Michelle, Trisha and Darin Stever and Sara DiGrigoli. 

     Funeral services will be held Saturday at 1:00 p.m. from the Niverville Methodist Church with the service conducted by Rev. Dr. Robert Pennock. Interment will be in Kinderhook Cemetery. MALDEN BRIDGE, N.Y.  --  Ricki (Kornblum) Stockwell, 53, of Malden Bridge, died Monday, October 11, 2004 at Community Hospice at St. Peter's Hospital in Albany after a lengthy illness. 

    Born in Brooklyn, she had been a resident of Columbia County for many years and was president of the Region Pallet Co. of New York for 10 years. 

     Ricki is survived by her husband of 31 years, Luke J. Stockwell of Malden Bridge; her parents, Stewart and Natalie (Rosenthal) Kornblum of Boca Raton, Fla.; a daughter, Lindsay Stockwell of East Greenbush; a son, Jared L. and his wife Nicole Stockwell of NYC; a sister, Tami Soto of Chicago; and a brother, Brian Kornblum of Larchmont, N.Y. Also survived by her best friend, Diana Holly. 

     Relatives and friends are invited to attend her funeral 8:30 a.m. Thursday from the Rockefeller Funeral Home, 165 Columbia Tpk., Rensselaer and 9:00 a.m. at Holy Spirit Church, East Greenbush where the Liturgy of Death and Burial will be celebrated. Tamburro, Mollie   --  12/30/2004 
HUDSON  --  Mollie Tamburro, of Hudson, died Tuesday, December 28, 2004 at Columbia Memorial Hospital. 

     She was 91. Born near Rome, Italy on November 13, 1913, she was the daughter of the late Luciano and Blanche Castelani Innocenzi. 

     Mrs. Tamburro was a seamstress for Nancy Ann Mills for many years. She was a member of the former Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church in Hudson, St. Mary's Church and St. Mary's Christian Services Committee. She loved cooking, crocheting and her family. 

     Survivors include her son, Frank A. Tamburro Jr. of Claverack; one daughter, Madeline T. Suszko of Albany; one sister, Mary Gaudio of Hudson; six grandchildren, Jean Sandagato, Peter Tamburro, David Tamburro, Kristin Saunders, Christopher Suszko and Mark Houghton; six great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Frank A. Tamburro Sr., and a sister, Josephine Battistello. 

     A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, December 31, 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary's Church in Hudson with Rev. Winston Bath officiating. Burial in the family plot at Cedar Park Cemetery will follow. Calling hours are Thursday (today) 5-8 p.m. at McDonald Funeral Home, 886 Columbia St., Hudson. Taylor, Doris   --  5/8/2004 
CLAVERACK  --  Doris Flynn Taylor of Claverack, died Thursday, May 6, 2004. 

     A native Staten Islander, born on January 30, 1923, she moved with her family to Columbia County in 1965. She was a photojournalist and feature writer for the New York Daily News. She had her own radio talk show on WCKL. In 1980, she became an original doll artist with her award-winning Hakka Woman, which was sold in Disney World, Fla. She had exhibited in London and Lucerne, Switzerland. She was a member of the Dutch Heritage and Shaker Doll clubs. She was also a member of the World Wide Doll Makers and American Doll Artists. Mrs. Taylor was also a world traveler and frequent lecturer at Columbia-Greene Community College. 

     Wife of the late Edward W. Taylor, she is survived by three daughters, Pamela Farrell of Ghent, Deborah Zindell of Santaluz, Calif. and Alison Ryan of Aberdeen, N.J. She had nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Services will be held at Bates and Anderson Funeral Home, 110 Green St., Hudson. 

     Viewing will be Sunday from 2 to 8 p.m. Mass services will be held at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Hudson at 11 a.m. Monday with the Rev. Thomas Powers officiating. Pall bearers will be Kevin Ryan, Edward Ryan, Donald Farrell, Larry Thornton, Mike Martel and Rob Snell. Thumann, Michael D.   --  1/6/2005 
CHATHAM  --  Michael Daniel Thumann, 28, of Chatham, died suddenly Wednesday, January 5, 2005 in Carolina Beach, N.C. 

     Michael born on January 24, 1976 in Rochester, N.Y., the son of Michael and Mary (Kenneally) Thumann, both of Chatham. 

     He attended Chatham Central Schools. He loved to go snow boarding and was an ardent Yankees fan. 

     Besides his parents, Michael is survived by his daughter, Rosie of Spencertown; brother, Christopher Hartnett Thumann of Chatham; maternal grandmother, Marie Kenneally of Middletown, N.Y. and his loving friend, Amanda Welch. Michael is also survive by 24 cousins and many aunts and uncles. 

     Funeral services will be held Saturday 11:00 a.m. from the St. James R.C. Church, Chatham with the Reverend Gary Gelfenbien officiating. Interment will be in the St. James Cemetery, Ghent, N.Y. Toussaint, Rosemarie   --  1/23/2005 
HUDSON  --  Rosemarie Toussaint, 78, of Lucille Drive in Hudson, died Friday, January 21, 2005 at Columbia Memorial Hospital. 

     Born March 5, 1926 in Troy, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Celina (Messick) Breault. 

     Mrs. Toussaint was a truant officer with the Averill Park Central School District for over 20 years. 

     Surviving are her husband, Frederick Toussaint of Hudson; two sons, William Toussaint of Greenport and Robert Toussaint of Bordentown, N.J.; a daughter, Nancy Linehan of Albany; two grandsons, Derek and Nathaniel Toussaint; both of Greenport; and two granddaughters, Kristin and Kelly Toussaint, both of N.J.

Tremblay, Roland V.   --  10/16/2004-10/17/2004
  VALATIE  --  Roland V. (Joe) Tremblay, age 69, of Rt. 9H of Valatie, died Thursday, October 14, 2004 after a long illness at the VA Medical Center. Born in Montpelier, Vt., he was a resident of the Capital Region all of his life. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict and worked as a shop foreman for Armory Garage for over 30 years before retiring in 1992. He then became a bus driver for Ichabod Crane schools and most recently was an installer for Life Line at the Eddy in Troy. Joe was the beloved husband of the late Ann Marie (Hulsopple) Tremblay; devoted father of Denise A. (Jim) Kinney of Schodack, Patrise M. (Jan) Schroeder of Latham, Joanne (Stephan) Kannes of West Sand Lake, Thomas J. (LeeAnn) Tremblay of Chatham, and Michael R. (Kimberly) Tremblay of Maine; brother of Mary Jane Woods, Joseph (Lefty), Adelard (Lite) and Rene (Ray) Tremblay. He is also survived by 17 grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. VanAlstyne, Warren A.   --  5/15/2004
  KINDERHOOK -- Warren A. Sonny VanAlstyne, 82, of Broad Street, Kinderhook, N.Y. died Wednesday, May 12, 2004 at Albany Memorial Hospital. 

     Born in Stuyvesant Falls, N.Y., May 24, 1921, he was the son of the late Albert and Florence VanAlstyne. Sonny was a World War II veteran in the U.S. Army Air Force and was the owner of the former Van's Grocery Store and the O.K. Package Store in Kinderhook. He also owned school buses at one time for the Ichabod Crane School District. He was a member of Winding Brook Country Club, Kinderhook Elks Lodge #2530, the Clapp-Novak American Legion Post in Kinderhook and the Stuyvesant Falls VFW Post #9593. 

     He is survived by his wife Margaret (West) VanAlstyne; a daughter, Gretchen Rossi of Flintstone, Ga.; a stepson, Paul Miller of Schenectady; a brother, Glenn VanAlstyne of Stuyvesant Falls; and a grandson, Anthony Rossi of Flintstone. 

     A memorial service will be held Saturday at 1:00 p.m. from the Raymond E. Bond Funeral Home, Rt. 9, Valatie with Deacon Charles O'Neil officiating. Interment will be at the convenience of the family. There will be no calling hours.   HUDSON  --  William Edward Weber, age 73, entered into eternal life Saturday, May 1, 2004. 

     Born in Albany, he lived in the capital area most of his life. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He had been employed for many years by Brockway-Smith Inc. of Coxsackie as a carpenter. He was a communicant of the Church of St. Francis deSales in West Albany. 

     Son of the late Charles E. and Caroline T. Doberty Weber. Beloved husband of the late Rita Cleary Weber; brother of the late John and Charles Weber; beloved friend of Marion Patrick of Hudson; loving uncle of Lewis Mackey, Irene Clements, Barbara Cesario and Kathleen Kelsey. Also survived by several grandnieces and grandnephews. 

     Funeral services will be held in the Lasak & Gigliotti Funeral Home, 8 Dudley Heights, Albany (opposite the Philip Livingston School on Northern Blvd) Tuesday morning at 9:15 and 10 o'clock at the Church of St. Francis deSales, Exchange Street, West Albany. Wenzel, Donald   --  1/7/2004 - 1/8/2004.
  KINDERHOOK  --  Donald Wenzel, 65, of Burma Rd., Kinderhook, N.Y., formerly of Long Island, passed away Tuesday, January 6, 2004 at his home. 

     Born in Bronx, N.Y., July 12, 1938, he was the son of the late Albert and Agnes (Werner) Wenzel. A veteran with the U.S. Army during the Berlin Crisis, he was employed by LILCO for 20 years and, upon retiring, worked for himself as a steel and hydraulic mechanic. He was a communicant of St. John the Baptist Church and a member of the John J. Curran Council Knights of Columbus. Don was an avid gardener, sports fan, Yankees fan and was especially proud of his talent with building stone walls. 

     He will be missed by all his family and friends. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Loretta (McClusky) Wenzel; three daughters, Donna Ann Esperti and husband Joseph of Albany, N.Y., Laura Ann Wenzel and husband Raymond Brunk of Waterford, N.Y. and Nancy Ann Kipp and husband Donald of Valatie, N.Y.; one son, Robert Wenzel of East Chatham, N.Y.; a brother, William Wenzel of Cold Brook, N.Y.; two grandsons, Maxx Wenzel and Dylan Kipp; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son, Don Wenzel. 

     Funeral services will be held Saturday at 11:00 a.m. from St. John the Baptist Church, Route 9, Valatie with the Mass celebrated by Rev. John Molyn. Willis, Donald E.   --  12/29/2004 
    VALATIE  --  Donald E. Willis, of Valatie, on December 26, 2004. 

     He was born April 14, 1926 to William A. Sr. and Josephine J. (Mulvey) Willis of the Bronx, N.Y. 

     Here, he attended school and graduated from the George Washington High School. After graduation, he attended N.Y.S. University at Plattsburgh. It was there that he met his future wife, Phyllis L. Latinville. They were married January 28, 1951 and enjoyed over 51 years of marriage. Donald served in the Navy during World War II. He was manager for NYSEG and that job took him from Plattsburgh to Binghamton to Williamsville and finally to Chatham Center in 1968. Donald was a member of Winding Brook Country Club, Kinderhook BPOE #2530 and the Quarter Century Club. He also supported many civic groups, especially the Girl Scouts of America. Aside from his beautiful relationship with his wife, he loved playing golf, hunting and fishing. His greatest satisfaction came from his home Rite Ridge; he loved the view, peace and the tranquillity that it provided him. His sense of humor will be missed by all who knew him. 

     His beloved wife predeceased him in 2002. He leaves behind his loving children, Donald E. Jr. and his wife Priscilla of Huntington Beach, Calif., Deborah E. of Chatham, Sharon W. Curry of Chatham and Stacie W. Kalbacher of Valatie; his devoted grandchildren, Sarah, Kathrine, Thomas (T.J.) Kenny IV, Andrew Freinberg, Stacy Curry, Morgan Kalbacher and Chloe; and his niece, Judy Cohen. His brother, William A. Willis Jr., predeceased him. 

     Family will receive friends at the French, Gifford and Preiter Funeral Home, 25 Railroad Avenue, Chatham on Wednesday, December 29 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. James R.C. Worley, George Wilton  --  12/7/2004
  STOCKPORT, N.Y.  --  George Wilton Worley, 80, of Stockport, formerly of West Sand Lake, died on Monday, December 6, 2004 at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Albany, N.Y. following a long battle with cancer. 

     Born on June 1, 1924 in Daniels, W.V., George was the second son of Ethel and Charles L. Worley. 

     He was a World War II veteran serving with the United States Navy during which time he served in the invasion of Normandy. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post #3220, Stottville, N.Y. He was employed at Kenosha Auto Transport and a member of the Teamsters Union for many years. During his retirement years, he enjoyed being with his family, working around his home and gardening. 

     George is survived by his wife of 55 years, J. Ruth Worley; five children, Dean W. Worley and wife Sue, Drema G. Worley and husband Joseph McHugh, George E. Worley and wife Noreen, Shirley A. Hoffman and husband John and James L. Worley and wife Debbie. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren, Sarah R. Hoffman, Samantha L. Worley, Laurie A. Worley, John A. Hoffman III, Kadie G. Hoffman, Shannon R. Worley, Matthew J. Worley, Charles Worley, Audrey Cole, Daniel Worley, David Worley; and two great-grandchildren, Shelby and Skyler Cole. Surviving siblings are Eva Bower, Macil Waddell, Francis Meador, Cleveland Worley and Lola Worley. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by brother, Charles L. Worley Jr. 

     George's family would like to thank the doctors and nurses at the V.A. Hospital who were so caring and thoughtful. The family will receive friends on December 8 from 6-8 p.m. at the Raymond E. Bond Funeral Home in Valatie, N.Y. The funeral services will be held on December 9 at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. Eric Blahut officiating.

VALATIE  --  Ronald E. Wright, 53, of Valatie, died Monday, December 20, 2004 at Barnwell Health Facilities in Valatie. 

     Born in Great Barrington, Mass., March 26, 1951, he was the son of the late Allen and Carrie (Little) Wright. 

     Ron worked as a lab mechanic for the NYS Health Department in Albany. He was a member and past president of the Niverville Fire Department, an honorary member of the Valatie Rescue Squad and a hot air ballon volunteer. 

     He is survived by his wife, Patricia (Hines) Wright of Valatie; one daughter, Erika Wright of Middletown, N.Y.; two sisters, Darinda Humes of Bantam, Conn. and Debra Hester of Canaan, Conn.; three brothers, Guy Wright of Fort Pierce, Fla., Jeffrey Wright of Waterford, N.Y. and Lee Andy Wright of Great Barrington. 

     A memorial service will be held Thursday at 6 p.m. from the Raymond E. Bond Funeral Home, Rt. 9, Valatie with Rev. Stark Jones officiating. Interment will be at the convenience of the family.
